Got 2 via GwG on Xbox 360. Played through what is a glorified tutorial and I hated everything about the game. The movement, the completely incomprehensible controls and oh yeah, the frame rates were abysmal, but that's what you get for playing an antique console.MKJ wrote:i still have to play 2. moron alert?

Pre-ordered 3 a few days ago. Looks like it might be the best of the 3. Only time will tell.

On PC part 2 was rather good i thought, i almost finished it before i got bored with it as i recall. There was a bit too much running to and fro in some of the later missions i thought... but yeah, pretty good game otherwise.
Will get this one on a sale in about a year i guess.

Re: Witchers 3
This game is ridiculously good.
There were a few teething problems with crashes to desktop the first couple of days after release, but those were all fixed for the weekend.
It's huge, with some of the best quest design and writing in years, if not ever. It's not about saving the world either, but about politics and intrigue, so avoids a lot of the tropes usually associated with RPGs.
Seriously, the quest design is stunning, really coming into its own once you start exploring the first major city, Novigrad. Threads from numerous quests interweave seamlessly with others, creating a rich tapestry that unfurls as you play, with layers of complexity and depth I don't think I've ever come across in a game before.
Combat's great and keeps you on your toes while forcing you to be prepared. It keeps introducing new things to kill at a nice pace and leaves a lot of nice high level things for you to come back and explore later, but that will trounce you for attempting them too early. I love that kind of design in RPgs, and it very much reminds me of the Gothic / Risen games in that respect, but delivered with far more flair.
But it's not a short game. I guess if you just stick to the main quest, you might get away with maybe a forty hour play-through (don't know rightly; haven't completed the game yet), but this is a game of Elder Scrolls proportions except without the buggy quests and much more compelling characters & writing.
If you can give it the time it deserves, I highly, highly recommend it, but I know that a game this size may be asking too much time of many players.

Re: Witchers 3
I should try it... except dark souls 2 is still consuming my time.
Re: Witchers 3
Agreed. I've been playing it for about 25 hours and feel like I've barely scratched the content. And it will definitely smack you around for attempting some quests too soon. I can easily see this slipping into a couple hundred hours.Mat Linnett wrote:This game is ridiculously good.

Re: Witchers 3
I played maybe 30 minutes of Witcher 2 before I got bored trying to learn a new combat/signs/potion system.
I put in the effort for this game and it was worth it. Pretty good so far. I like the time limit on some of the choices.

Looks like Kracus one-upped you in the third post Eraser.
Re: Witchers 3
nah, Eraser did it proper by imbedding it

Oh, yeah, well, it's true, wouldn't have missed it if it was embedded.
Re: Witchers 3
The youtube button does complicate things.
Re: Witchers 3
I don't care for how the man controls, it's hard to pick things up and navigate tight spaces. It's really good tho. A man caused his wife to miscarry by using her as a punching bag, and i had to escort him while he carried his demon fetus through town. Cuz that shit happens to unwanted children in witcher world.

Same here. Need to invest some serious time into them

I picked this up with the Xbone. I'm gonna wait to play it until the new TV is delivered.
Any tips for the Witcher newb?

It starts out hard. Dodge lots, and buy a lot of food to restore your health while fighting. I'd say you'll probably start to feel comfortable around level 12-15, and from there on combat can become ridiculously easy.
For super-easy mode, even at the highest difficulty level, spec into light attack for Whirl and use the Ekhidna Decoction. This basically makes you indestructible, and completely removes the reliance on food and the Swallow potion.
