Genuinely saddened by this, the first books of his I ever read were Truckers/Diggers/Wings as a wee lad, after which I remember going through the local library's Discworld collection. The man opened up generations of kids and adults to some great writing...

Yeah it sucks. Worse thing about it is he was still fairly young and probably still had several books left in him...

I read 34 of his Discworld books, had started on the 35th (Thud!) two days ago. A real shame. He's a masterful storyteller.
He was diagnosed with some form of Alzheimer's disease though, so it was always a bit of a question how many more books he could write. I just read on Wikipedia that he wrote his last books by dictating them to an assistant.
It also states a severe chest infection with final complications from his Alzheimer's was the cause of his death.

Never read any of his books but someone earlier told me just how many he's written. That's a lot of books.

It's not just Terry that's died.
It's Sam Vimes, Nobby, Carrot and Fred Colon.
It's Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg.
It's Foul Ol' Ron and Gaspode the Wonderdog.
It's the Patrician and Ridcully.
And it's Rincewind and his Luggage and a whole host of other glorious characters.

To be honest, I stopped reading the Discworld books after Snuff, as I found that his illness was becoming apparent by that stage in his writing, and I didn't want to tarnish my memory of him.

In my mind, Granny's now permanently dormant on her bed with her "I ATEN'T DEAD" sign on her chest.

He certainly wasn't old fashioned.
6 monitors to write a book? Wow. George R.R. Martin only needs a PC with WordPerfect 4.2 installed.
That is one sweet hourglass though!

Never got into his books myself, but rip anyways - what a prolific writer.

I remember an old interview with him asking why he had (at the time) 4 monitors - his answer was "Because I don't have enough space for 6".
Later the same question about 6 monitors - "Because I don't have enough space for 8"!

Not afraid of heights, afraid of depths.

HE WAS THE NEXT ON THE LIST. DON'T BLAME ME.
