These houses look great but how practical are they really? Surely in real-life you'd not be able to keep them looking so minimalistic once you add your stuff?

Nothing against America in general, but you guys really do have the most awful taste in homes.

It is weird looking. But I wouldn't go out on a limb and categorize entire groups of people as having bad taste. "Taste" is completely subjective. Lots of good and bad everywhere.

i think once a person gets to a certain "level" stuff becomes less and less important

and more about the fundamentals of the moment

imo it seems people are less afraid to celebrate their own uniqueness moreso in the u.s.

i know that here we are seeing the generic type ikea euro-style more and more , the builders like it because it is ultra high margin.

Bob Hope does not have an above-ground pool. Clearly not a pooron.

Of course you can categorise entire groups of people based on taste. America, by and large, has no historically defined artistic style, which is why, as plained says, they celebrate their own "uniqueness". What it always ends up being is an over-designed lump with no aesthetic reference of any kind.

American homes, for the most part, age terribly.

Not all American homes, just most.

Two things Americans can't do: make nice cars, or build nice houses.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of shit the English do terribly, possibly to an even greater extent than America.

well there's celebrating and there's flaunting.
much like there's tasteful and gaudy.

Really? I mean, wouldn't be my choice if i had several millions to burn on a house, but i quite like the look of it to be honest. At least it's not one of those godawful plantation style mansions they're so fond of across the pond...

Yeah, I think it's completely soulless. It's a beautiful looking building, but it looks like a modern architect's take on a museum or exhibition centre. I mean, seriously, it even has hand rails running up the concrete steps on both sides.

As a home, as a place where you would raise a family and build memories, it's pretty ghastly.

Also, the front kind of looks like the rim of a baseball cap, which is just one Americanism too far.

Very interesting building but absolutely not "homely" in the slightest. Far too industrial and it reminds me of something from War of the Worlds (the 50s version)

IIRC it was built in 1980. Bob Hope would've been 77. So it probably wasn't built with raising a family in mind and I'm sure he greatly appreciated the double railings.
