I discovered the joys of the word "turgid" and have successfully implemented it into my vocabulary.

A visit to Vienna (Wien).
Holy shit, had I underestimated that city. It really is interesting on many levels. Family-friendly. Not snobby, cosmopolitan, full of ancient history.
Great town. I'd move there if necessary.

Sounds interesting, what's your product/service?
We aim to help people with saving energy in their households; providing an overview over their energy consumption and enabling them to compare it to others. So far, a two energy companies are interested and possible initial funding is on the way that should carry us through the first year. A closed alpha version will be released this month.

You need a FLIR camera. I've got one for work. A bit pricey ($100k), but it'd be really helpful for you to find energy leaks.

Also, starting a business with friends is a terrible idea. It never ends well...

Cool, good luck! I only ask as the company I used to work for dealt with improving and calculating energy performance of new/existing buildings and products.

Do your energy companies not do something like that already? I've got a smartmeter on my house which automatically submits meter readings back to my energy company and they do similar comparisons but only let you compare data against their own customers not all the other providers.

My heating is gas so not even accounted for here too, and I barely have anything switched on to use electric >:(.

Office/gaming PC probably averages around 180W, media PC around 180W too but both are set to standby when not doing anything. The house is unoccupied around 8am => 7pm weekdays and when home it's not as though all the lights are left on.

So really the only things getting used 24/7 are fridges/freezes etc. I've got two extra freezers in the garage but they should barely use any power (I really should just use the stuff up in them). I think the biggest contributor is the fish pond pump in the garden. It's sat eating about 150w 24/7. The pond's about 5,000 litres so needs a fairly hefty pump.

I'm also too lazy to properly sort it out.

I'll have to double-check but I think so. That's not counting the monitors, amp etc though. They're going to be sat fairly idle most of the time so shouldn't be drawing too much power.
