Happy 15th Birthday Quake 3!

Post by saturn »

:id:

I remember playing the Q3 demo on my uni T3 server with 3 ping in december 1999. The deathmatch server was filled with so many players getting frantical. Got me hooked and the rest is history. Playing instagib on CC Torment's server in California with 500+ ping was quite different at home (56k6 modem), but still lotsa fun.

I still miss playing Rocket Arena at times :tear:

15 years... what is it about milestones that make ppl nostalgic...?
Back in the day when a hashtag was an IRC channel prefix :)

I still have my original Q3A folder that has been copied across multiple windows installs and new PCs, complete with mods, various configs and multiple .exes for different point releases.
And a folder of screenies that I occasionally flick through :paranoid:

I occasionally miss it and fire up Qlive, but the players are not the same.

I remember when q3test came out, I think late November '99? Fun shit. I joined this hellhole of a forum shortly after under a different nick. I thought I would be sick of dm17 by the time the full game came out but nope...

q3test was like half a year before the release of Q3.

Yup, I remember spending the summer playing q3test when it was still exclusive for mac, while I should have in fact been working.

I remember getting the demo in Nov 1999. Signed up on this forum in Dec 99. Great game honestly, I can't say I've ever come across another game I've sunk so much time into except maybe Burnout Revenge.
