Forum feature suggestions
Oh hello.
You may or may not have noticed but I've been gradually modernizing the forums the last few months.
While I'm digging through the (unneeded complex) code I'm seeing all kinds of potential to add some stuff. Hey q3w might even feel like something out of the 2010s some day!
So if there's something you see on other sites which you would like to see implemented here, or you just have a good suggestion, mention it in this thread. A short explanation why it would be beneficial would be even better. Depending on complexity, usefulness and my own time it might even get implemented!
And yes, a mobile version is in the works. While on the top of the priority list it's also the most complex change so that might be a while.
Know that I'm currently pretty swamped at work, and that my HDD with the local Q3W development copy crashed so I have to set that all up from scratch again; ergo don't expect any miracles soon.
Anyway. Every idea is welcome so fire away.

Re: Forum feature suggestions
Also note that suggestions don't have to be technical in nature, things like missing smilies or the merging of forums are also appreciated.
Re: Forum feature suggestions
What about implementing other world languages to the forums (like German, Chinesse or Russian for some members that have these langs as national). I recently voted for czech lang being installed, but while it's not world lang, it is impossible. If czech wants to visit other country, he needs to learn it's lang. When abroad visits Bohemian, we need to learn his lang as well to understand him and speak with him. Too bad before 2000 it was not true... These forums are abroad, not for czech native-speaker-only - it's not me, of course
But Germans and Russians would like to see at least interface of these forums in their native langs

Re: Forum feature suggestions
how about more active users?

but then, before 2000 you didn't have Marks & Spencer on Vaclavske namesti, so stop complainingCZghost wrote:If czech wants to visit other country, he needs to learn it's lang. Well that's on you lot. Invite your fellow nerds, and don't verbally abuse anyone with less than 10 posts.seremtan wrote:how about more active users?
Re: Forum feature suggestions
I'd like to see a developer blog where MKJ talks about sexual abstinence and jazz music.

Re: Forum feature suggestions
Get rid of the whole "post reply" screen and put all of that functionality in the quick reply area. I never use the "post reply" screen but get miffed sometimes when I don't know the smiley codes or have the PHPBB shortcut buttons available.
Edit: don't have to get rid of the post reply screen of course. It's still used when editing or quoting.
One more thing though: show login controls instead of quick reply when not logged in. It's annoying to find out you hadn't logged in yet after typing that 1500 word epos of a post.

Another thing, just send me back to my post, there's no need to ask about that. No one's gonna go to the first page anyway or whatever the alternative is.

Re: Forum feature suggestions
allow quoting from multiple posts without having to open each post in a separate tab (if that's possible) to do it
this could mesh quite well with Egayser's 'functionality in the quick reply area' idea

Re: Forum feature suggestions
Take a look at Discourse. Copy 1/10th of their features and Q3W is a-ok.
Re: Forum feature suggestions
Since I lost my webspace, I have started to attach screenshots to the threads here. This is a great features and avoids externally having to store the images. Would there be some way to better "place" the images in posts. Like a tag, e.g. [attachedimage1].
So that something like:
---
blah...
[attachedimage1]
more blah...
[attachedimage2]
even more blah...
---
would become possible?
Thanks.

We need some "like" buttons....and some pokes.
Re: Forum feature suggestions
A "share to Facebook" button for posts.
