Far Cry 64-bit patch released

hey, don, o-dium, bitwise... would any of you be willing to run my quake3 map compiler benchmark? I started it last year and got good results, but I never was able to get anyone to test it on an Althon64 processor. I like to know how well the Althon does in comparison to the P4, could be useful for when I upgrade.

All you need to have is quake3 to run it, you can download and post your results on my webpage here:

hmm, placed it in quake3arena\benchmarks, ran the batch but it kept telling me not to put it in my baseq3 folder.(i guess it tells you that regardless)

It gives you that message if the folder "../baseq3/scripts" doesn't exist.

The batch file should be run from:

"...\Quake III Arena\benchmark\run_benchmark.bat"

And your baseq3 dir should be at

"...\Quake III Arena\baseq3"

Did it finish the benchmark at all?

thats exactly what i have. also i havent really installed it on this OS. i just run it from another partition.

does it need install info from registry?

no it doesnt run at all, just gives me the baddir error message.


edit: i looked in my baseq3 dir, and i do not have a scripts folder??

Registry settings shouldN'T matter at all.

The command that causes that error is the same you'd get if you were to open the command prompt in the benchmark directory, run the command "cd ../baseq3/scripts", and get the error message: "The system cannot find the path specified".

Strange. This is twice already today that someone hasn't been able to get the benchmark to work.

okay, i had to extract the scripts folder from pak0.pk3 first.

Err, I have bad news but I had to redo the benchmark. If you noticed, the compile time for vis was really quick for you, like ten seconds, when it really should be nearer to a minute. I discovered this same problem too. It's a bug and it was making for inaccurate results.

Anyway, I redid the benchmark to prevent problems like this from happening. Everything is now included in the benchmark, you don't even need to have quake installed for it to work now. Unfortunately I had to archive the old results, because the compile time of the older version and this new version are a lot different. Hopefully the results will be more accurate now.

Am I the only one who thinks the extended viewing distance makes it look worse?

And some of the original textures looked better, or at least more realistic.
