The story of cult film director Alejandro Jodorowsky's ambitious but ultimately doomed film adaptation of the seminal science fiction novel.

Yes, indeed it could be so. Whiskey 7, as Just another Earthling, have you given Dune a viewing yet? What did you think of the philosophical undertones within the story?

Philosophical undertones like our dependence on fossil fuels? Just glimpse at any freeway and the millions of motor vehicles running from A to B, usually with one on board :smirk:

Most might appreciate the (possible) Islamic and Arabic undertones in Dune. Not sure of your opinion on this point of course Captain Mazda or if you see them at all.

I suspect there wouldn't be too many here that haven't seen the movie and many just watch the movie and don't dig too far :D

Here's the Wiki for the novel and the movie

Briefly, the movie is one of my favorites where I enjoy the battle between the interstellar races at a political and religious level, like here on this small planet over the dwindling resources.

Kind of reminds me of Avatar just a little, where a small, seemingly defenseless native species is sitting on a goldmine of resources sought by a technological superior species :smirk:

The talent that was going into that project truly was amazing.
On the other hand, I can't get to like Jodorowsky. I watched The Holy Mountain and Santa Sangre and both are so over the top metaphorical.
I like me a metaphor in a movie, like all those in Lynch's movies for example. Jodorowsky just goes too far with them imo.
So, I'm happy he did not get to realize his vision and Lynch got to do the job. I like his version.
Another director that could have taken an interesting approach to the theme would have been Andrei Tarkovsky I think. In his later years outside the USSR.

edit:
And on topic:
There is a doc being in the can for this? Hmm, hasn't everything been covered on youtube, etc? What cow do they want to milk?

on a related note, Herbert's science was rubbish. all six Dune novels are filled with Lysenkoist nonsense about acquired characteristics passed on genetically

otherwise awesome novels

H.R. Giger made quite some design studies for Jodorowsky's Dune back in the 70s until it petered out.
