insanely fast from home still, work not so much.
traceroutes show delays somewhere along the line. it's not us, it's them.

slow on desktop, but fast on my Android. only difference is DNS server (desktop uses OpenDNS, not sure about Android - either BT or Mountain View)

Different dns might help. DooMer got a notice about large scale DDoS attacks going on slowing down traffic to a number of websites, which he isn't posting here just to be a troll.
Meanwhile we wait I suppose.

It's not going to take much more of this to totally kill forum activity. You have to wait after log-in, wait to read a thread and wait to post. Is this place still interesting enough to put up with that?

8.8.8.8 is Google open dns I think.
it routes to a diff dns depending on your location sl it might not work for everybody.

Hmm, I tried those Google DNS servers but lost all DNS capability then. No URL would resolve anymore

could be wrong but I thought I'd heard that they'd closed those recently.

Run a tracert to http://www.quake3world.com and post the results...

Don't think I'll ever be inclined to buy software to enter commands for me... :) All of that stuff can be done from a command prompt as long as you know what to punch in.

Yeah probably cause everyone and their dog was using it to get the US version of netflix.

Sounds like whatever device in detroit is causing the slowdown is likely responsible. You could always try to modify your hosts file to point the url to the correct IP but I'm not 100% sure it'll bypass that particular device in detroit. It might though if it's being sent there by the DNS server.

A DNS server won't get you US Netflix content, nor will changing your hosts file alter the route taken to a specific IP address. In other words, you haven't got a clue what you're talking about.

I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet but has anyone tried fixing the problem?

As mentioned on IRC/A&M, page loads are instantaneous on my Mac but slow on PC. Same router, both computers running Firefox, trace routes on both have similar latencies. Shaft and MKJ both have Macs that work fine as well. WTF?

Those of you who are loading fine on mobile devices... iPhones?
