Definately didn't work here, with Safari 2.0 (latest version, shipped with Tiger) and 10.4.0 Auto-Downloaded, and nothing in the dasboard widget bar.

you're settings in Safari are probably not default like most. this is a pretty bad security flaw, nevertheless.

not bashing on Tiger, Safari, or Apple. i just dig security and thought this was interesting.

Nope, set to auto-open "safe" files, as whenever I download most zips with widgets inside, it yells at me saying theres an application inside and that I shouldn;t open unless I know where it came from. This time, it just poof and disappeared; it started to auto-download, got to the uncompressing part, and never heard anything since. No file in my downloads, no file in my User widgets directory, nor the system's widget directory.

No it isn't. Article says it goes to User\Library\Widgets\

Nothing there except for widgets I installed. Just did a spotlight search for any widget on my computer, nothing I didn't already have. Its not on my iBook, it dropped off the face of the earth for me.
