The MG in Q3 is a decent spawn weapon but they should've lowered the damage in FFA from 7 to 5, like it is in TDM. As it is now, even with 200 health and armor you're going down if you run into a pack of fresh MG-cessing spawnees.

The chaingun didn't slow down quake 2 at all.
There is a delay on the railgun, did THAT slow it down? What about the shotgun, that had a delay too. Did that slow it down?

what you're saying with delay is delay previous to the shot. the q3 sg doesnt have that, none of the guns have delay. i dont remember the q2 chaingun having it tho?
BTW, it doesn't have a delay per'see, it has a minimum spin. In other words, tap fire and it will spurt a few bullets out instantly, but you cant just fire one like the Q3 MG.
Thats what i mean. Not a delay, i.e. a huge spin up, just that little start part.

lol i played it alot, was my first game i played MP. was a long time ago, since Q3Test arrived i've rarely played it. yes i know i used the chaingun, but i cant remember if it had reload.

uhm how do these screenies look better than D3?
I must be oversimplifying them.
I never played q2 (there goes half my audience) but I would be perfectly satisfied with a q3 feel(environments I can actually see in), with more graphics and preferably some more detail to the physics movements of players, bullets, environment etc , in a way that it only adds to the complexity and posibilities instead of hindering the fast pased fun.
I'm not really impressed with these screenies nor my spelling :icon29:
I just want that feeling I used to get from Q3, you know the one that makes the choice of getting laid or fpsing significant

Yep, it does. I've been playing the Quake series online since the first qtest came out[1] and Q2 has by far the slowest pace of the pack. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing: Q2 was the first iD game were people didn't run straight for the RA + RL upon spawning[2] but actually employed some tactics. Sadly, it's also their first game where camping really paid off: those delays make weapons a lot less effective for close combat (SSG, RL, CG). The RG has a delay too but since that's mostly used for long-range shots, it's much easier to keep in consideration.
Summarized: ditch weapon fire delays if you want fast, mano-a-mano fighting.
[1] And D1/D2 before that. And Tankwars before that
