Jj's star trek was awesome, btw.
Re: We're fucked...
It was an awesome action/sci fi film. It wasn't an awesome Star Trek film.
Thick, solid and tight in all the right places.

This. They played a 15-20 minute preview of Into Darkness before The Hobbit in the cinema. It was quite spectacular to see and looked like a promising scifi film, but it wasn't all that much Star Trek.LawL wrote:It was an awesome action/sci fi film. It wasn't an awesome Star Trek film.

Re: We're fucked...
I really liked the film; JJ isn't anywhere near as bad as people like Micheal Bay. He isn't ever going to be Chris Marker or David Lynch or Aleksandr Sokurov or even Quentin Tarantino, but he makes good blockbusters. Cloverfield was an excellent film; I really it.
He does get a few points off for having a nose like a penis, though.

I'll agree with that.

Re: We're fucked...
I must be the only person in the world who thought Cloverfield was actually worse than Roland Emmerich's Godzilla. But then again I think all "found footage" movies are garbage.
Re: We're fucked...
I dunno, I enjoyed watching Cloverfield. I didn't know anything about the movie before seeing it so I didn't have any expectations, which might have helped. I only saw it after buying the DVD when it was in some discount bin, but I thought it was cleverly made. A bit like the Blair Witch Project.
Re: We're fucked...
I enjoyed it for what it was. Thought it was one of those films that you have to see in a theatre though.

Re: We're fucked...
I forgot, was there an actual plot to Cloverfield? I just remember lots of shaking and blur, screaming and breathing into the mic, and the occasional CG blur of some creatures that might as well have been a couple of guys running around in cardboard boxes.

Re: We're fucked...
Bay > JJ Abrams, atleast Bay tries to tie in a story and knows what action looks like. The other guy just throws shit at a screen and let's you decide what just happened.

Let's list which films Mr Bay has done that are worth watching:losCHUNK wrote:Bay > JJ Abrams, atleast Bay tries to tie in a story and knows what action looks like. The other guy just throws shit at a screen and let's you decide what just happened.
Bad Boys
Bad Boys 2 (just)
The Rock
The Island (just)
Armageddon was watchable I guess?
I just dislike his blatant disregard for original material. Transformers, Turtles...the man is singlehandidly ruining my youthful memories.
Re: We're fucked...
All them are worth re-watching and Transformers didn't throw a pie in the face of a 35 year old franchise that has a following bigger than Jesus
, I'd actually put Star Trek on par with Transformers and thought both were alright.
What will I re-watch that was made by JJ Abrams ?, I may watch Star Trek again if I can survive the onslaught of cheese before flicking on Galaxy Quest

all movies by Roland Emmerich are the worst movies ever, by definition. anyone's who's seen 2012 can attest to thatGONNAFISTYA wrote:I must be the only person in the world who thought Cloverfield was actually worse than Roland Emmerich's Godzilla. even the old classic bad movies like Plan 9 From Outer Space, Terror From the Year 5000 or Manos: The Hands of Fate had an unintended comedic charm that is greatly enhanced by the ingestion of soft drugs and the company of friends

Re: We're fucked...
Cloverfield took itself waaayyyy too seriously to have a good laugh at it with soft drugs and the company of friends. In fact that's exactly how I saw it: high with friends and the first thing we all did when the movie was over was stand up and - in near perfect unison - said,"Well that fucking sucked" in that disappointed tone people get.
Some films truly are a waste of your time and to me Cloverfield will always be one of them.
And for the record, as horrible and stupid as it was, 2012 was vastly more entertaining than Cloverfield or any of the Transformers films precisely because it doesn't take itself too seriously and actually has some of that old classic bad movie charm that it seemed to laugh with the audience at how dumb it all is. Like DTS or xer0s, it's retarded, it knows it and just goes with the flow.
