Short film about the Welsh slate mine industry

A friend of mine's had an ongoing project based around the decline of the Welsh slate mining industry, visually he's taken some photographs of some of the guys still working in the few remaining mines and then pasted them up on old industrial sites of interest and let them decay as well as collecting stories and gathering information into a collective source. He's also made a short film which you should watch in HD.

I don't think he went into a reason though ?, nice vid, the whole countryside is dotted with shite like this, can't go far in any direction to find the remains of an industry that fueled the industrial revolution now long gone -

That picture is stunning. I'd no idea the landscape in Wales was so strongly influenced by quarrying and mining. I'm not sure what his next plans are, I think they're hoping this will generate some interest for more funding.

Aye a lot of it is hidden in plain sight, something like 90% of mined material was left for the 'tips' that's added to the landscapes, mostly by hand too.

I've only seen a few of the collieries that produce these mountains and always stumble across them by accident, huge abandoned buildings with all the trackwork / lift mechanisms rusting into ruins, it's some pretty impressive stuff.

I'm guessing your mate might be needing to look at stuff like the National Museums or Welsh Heritage ?, even the Welsh parliment cos I would have thought they get their rocks off with stuff like this.

lol I didn't either, it's not a welsh word I'm familiar with but those boyos are so Welsh that I'm English to them, it does have that tone though
