The Walking Dead: the -other- game
The Walking Dead: the -other- game
Activision is trying, and failing
Re: The Walking Dead: the -other- game
noticed that. pretty weak.
also a case of oversaturation, Walking Dead wise.
ofcourse Activision is an expert in oversaturating so I can see why they thought it was a good business move.

Re: The Walking Dead: the -other- game
Yeah I have no idea how they came up with this game. If you see the positive reactions to Telltale's Walking Dead game and you're coming up with this, then you can just bet all your money on a negative reception.
Re: The Walking Dead: the -other- game
is this pre-alpha/working it out footage?
Re: The Walking Dead: the -other- game
wow
will they be charging actual money for this?

Re: The Walking Dead: the -other- game
LOL, I thought for sure this game was from 2000ish until the end of the trailer.

Re: The Walking Dead: the -other- game
what's wrong with the game? I haven't played any single player games since like unreal 1, and I only play quakelive so i'm unfamiliar with the latest and greatest - is it the graphics you guys are whining about, or the gameplay?
can you show me what the state of the art is in fps graphics?

watch the Crysis 3 trailer on pootube for state-of-the-eyewateringly-shiny-art[xeno]Julios wrote:can you show me what the state of the art is in fps graphics?
i don't think it's entirely the graphics that are the issue. they're average, but not exactly terrible. it's just that if you're going to base a game on melee combat, it would help if the melee combat actually had some style to it. the combat in this is almost as basic as Minecraft ffs. ideally, you want to see ragdoll heads flying off and rolling along the street, you want chainsawed limbs to go flying, you want blood splatter that would make Tarantino smile, etc etc - i.e. you want something reminiscent of the TV show/graphic novel
also, the lack of view-bobbing during the melee parts is really fucking weird, like you're playing as R2D2 or a dalek or something
Re: The Walking Dead: the -other- game
The problem, for me, isn't the graphics, nor the combat or the gameplay in itself, nor is it the apparent lack of gore.
It's the fact that Telltale Games has released the final chapter of what is probably the biggest contender for a GOTY 2012 award last month, which is a game based on The Walking Dead as well.
Telltale's game is an emotionally gripping, harrowing tale that not only is delivered in a most stylish way but also has substance. That game also fits a genre that hasn't been done to death yet, despite the fact that it's about a zombie-infested world. In fact, it's one of the few games where QTE's don't feel like some uninspired, forced gameplay gimmick.
So a month after that fact, here comes Activision (which are, as we all know, the devils of the gaming industry) to deliver a completely generic, uninspired, mediocre Walking Dead game which feels completely misplaced next to Telltale's gem. It feels more like Activision is trying to ride Telltale's wave and cash in on their success.

Re: The Walking Dead: the -other- game
cool, thanks for the insight - off to watch crysis 3 on youtube
Re: The Walking Dead: the -other- game
Terminal Reality is developing it and they currently license an old engine for PS3/Wii/PSP. Looks like the game is using that engine and doesn't have much post processing going on.

i fuck men...
Re: The Walking Dead: the -other- game
i nearly said L4D2 then i remembered it's the melee weapons themselves that are cool in that, rather than the actual melee combatMKJ wrote:yes. take Dead Island as your paradigm of melee combat.

the trailer isnt official, but the footage is.
