23 mile skydive

Post by Nightshade »

Pretty sure no one's mentioned this (not sure though), but some crazy fucker named Felix Baumgartner will be skydiving from 120,000 feet today, if the weather cooperates. He hopes to go supersonic during his five minute free-fall. Live video feed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... kJ5ItzEq3M

Will he jump from a weather balloon with one broken glove like the original badass whose name escapes me? If not, what a foghat.

Joseph Kittinger - He's actually working with the Red Bull team as a consultant.

Yeah, it sounds stupid until you realize that they probably just want to make sure he doesn't get blown too far off course, which would mean that the cameras on the ground couldn't record the splat.

Probably went too far to land properly (smoothly into the landing) or he tipped backward a bit meaning that when he did land his bike would have gone flying out from under him and his tailbone would have been in 60 pieces. Seems like he's already done the second one, he mentions his tibia has been damaged. Those big jumps are pretty hard to land, you have to line them up just right distance and angle wise. I never got into that kind of shit when I used to ride, I just stuck to downhill and urban joy riding, but a lot of my buddies got pretty into the dirt jumps. Nothing that big obviously, but the same mechanics apply. Sweet video btw. Reminds me of Kranked 4 - Search for the Holy Trail. Lots of good footage from exotic locations in that film.

EDIT: I think he must have just over-shot it. He mentions landing "80 foot to flat" in his video comments.

I came down hard from a dodgy jump on a dodgy bike on a dodgy bmx track once so hard, my pedals shattered and that was from barely 5 feet of air. Fuck what he tried. Oh, fuck no.
Well if you got 3 dodgy things going for ya, can't blame ya. I'm sure this guy is riding a $10,000 downhill machine with full body armour. But yeah... fuck that. I once saw a clip of this rider named Bender (old, ~10 years ago) doing a 60 ft drop. I thought that was crazy... it wasn't even a jump. Just a cliff drop into a sand pit. I think he broke his foot or both or his legs or something fucking retarded. He rebounded off the sand and flew headfirst into a tree :olo:

Anyway, balls of steel
