Remakes and Reboots
Remakes and Reboots
I was going to post this in the Robocop thread, but thought it deserves it's own thread since we end up discussing this shit every time a new remake is announced.
I found this list of upcoming remakes, and it's amazing what Hollywood has planned...

Also, here's wiki's page of remakes. A ton of movies I thought were originals, are in fact remakes...

Re: Remakes and Reboots
That first page you linked to has a script problem so it won't load for me.
Anyway, those Wikipedia pages, yeah that's a long history of films being remakes.
You would have done better to post this in the Robocop thread, it fits well there, can't see this thread going anywhere.
I'll discuss it here, though.
The thing is, those films listed on those Wikipedia pages are a small amount compared to the massive amount of films made. The issue people have with remakes currently, is the how much of current films are remakes out of how many films are being made. You've got a point about not realising some films were remakes, though; if a film is made well you're not going to be bothered if there was a previous version. The trouble is, as mentioned in the Robocop thread, Hollywood don't have a good track record of remaking films to a high quality standard.
An example of a popular remake that I think is shit compared to the original is Heat; the original is L.A. Takedown which was made for TV by the same director... I've only seen a few bits of that remake, but all people can say in the remake's favour is they like one of the action scenes - which pales in comparison to the original - and the cast, which from what I've seen, and one bit I saw was supposed to be a great scene as people mention it, they look like cokeheads just saying the lines as if they are reading them off a menu, whereas in the original there was some quality acting going on in that scene. Maybe I am just used to the original, but it seems to me that people are just dazzled by big name actors cause of films they've been in before, and just glaze over whether they bring anything to the character they are supposed to be playing by acting.
Then there's the Transformers remakes, which are popular apparently just cause they've got a load of action in them and robots; regardless of the fact that the action is lame and the robots are wholly unimpressive. It's like how lame Terminator 3's action and cyborgs are compared to The Terminator and Terminator 2. It's like directors go now:
"This is what people want; action that looks like [some idiot] playing with his toys. Realism isn't needed, that's no fun." Or perhaps the directors are idiots playing with what they view as toys
Allright, so I said quite a bit, maybe this thread could go somewhere after all. Not a bad idea for a thread, just I could see how it would fit in well in the Robocop thread

Actually it sums up my view of Q3W pretty well;
I can't see Q3W going anywhere, I'll discuss stuff on here, though.

Re: Remakes and Reboots
Curious to see how Death Note turns out. It will make or break depending on who they cast as Light and L.
Personally, I don't care about remakes. I'll go see the ones that look interesting and skip the ones that don't. Just like any other movie. There is plenty of entertainment to go around, that I don't need to cry about a lack of completely original movies coming out every weekend.
Why do movie remakes take more heat than song covers?

Hey guys, I can't see this addiction to crack going anywhere, I'll just burn a few rocks while I contemplate quitting.

Re: Remakes and Reboots
That's actually a good point. A lot of gamers crave remakes and desperately look forward to them. Yet movies are sacred and shouldn't be touched...bitWISE wrote:Or video game remakes and sequels.bitWISE wrote:Why do movie remakes take more heat than song covers?
Re: Remakes and Reboots
Also, we scream for game updates/patches and love to see graphic improvements in our games. But heaven forbid Lucas goes back and makes some visual changes to Star Wars...
