Not sure if being here for so long has created this illusion in my mind, but I have yet to find other forum's pack this level of subtle WIN in their icons.
Here's to the brilliance of the original creator

IIRC, CWM made most of them, and snake and Turb added a few down the line.menkent wrote:didn't CWM and a few of the other original nerds make a bunch of them?
Pretty much spot-on.Transient wrote:Any other site uses giant bubbly pieces of shit that fuck up the line height or otherwise mess up the flow of your post. Not here.
Yeah, you might as well be limping around with a huge veiny cock in your ass if you use other forum icons.seremtan wrote:most other forum icons are fucking gay and i'd be embarrassed to use them

You are so fantastically dull.DTS wrote:They're called smilies, not icons. Bitches. And the shrug smilie is lame. There's a smilie called "the awesome smilie" that needs converting to the Q3W standard so it can be used, it's pretty good, but how often do you want to say "awesome" to something posted on Q3W? It could happen, though. Moron alert icon, yeah that could do with adding. Yes, OK some of them are called icons, but the ones of faces are called smilies. Got it?
I've seen some other icons that are pretty good. A blu-ray icon, and I made a few icons myself. Want to see them? I'll have to get the URLs (they are already online). I specially made them 15 pixels high so they fit into the text like on here without messing up the line spacing.
I like the idea of smilies and icons being the same colour as the text so they blend in, so grey smilies and icons for grey text, red smilies and icons for red text. The way to change them to grey without messing up the contrast and gamma and brightness is to recolour them green with the appropriate command in a picture editor (easy in Paint Shop Pro) THEN change them to grescale. Otherwise greyscaling skews everythig strangely based on supposed human vision of colour brightness. Green is the choice to make cause in the greyscaling process, green is viewed as the brightest out of the red/green/blue attributes that make up each colour (as red/green/blue is what the subpixels are made of). I figured this out for myself but when I did so I remembered that Turbanator had said that's how he changes the colour of smilies: make them green first, make then all green then whatever. IIRC he posted a green version of every smilie at one point to show that he'd done them.
