U Jelly?

Post by obsidian »

I'm in Kep, Cambodia at the Vanna Hill Resort Bunglalows. Looks like I'm the only guest at the establishment. I'm living in a very tidy and spacious room on the top of the hill overlooking the ocean about a half a click from the shore and 1km from the sandy beaches. My bungalow is surrounded with well tended gardens of tropical flowering plants. There is a large salt water swimming pool on an overhang facing the shore.

A short period of light drizzling rain didn't stop me from spending the entire day soaking in the pool, mostly floating in the middle of it on my back. I watched the sunset from the pool and I can hear the soothing sound of frogs croaking in the jungle.

Pretty fucking awesome.

I can tell that you're mad and jelluz. Thanks for coming. <3

FYI, I'm trying to keep the other thread chronological and I haven't done an update of it in about a week so I have some catching up to do. I just wanted to post this picture because it's fucking awesome.

Cool photo, that place sounds relaxing. Any good tropical fruit growing around there that you can munch on?

Well, it's awesome if you have money (exchange rate is 4000 whatever-the-heck-they-call-their-money to $1 U.S. and I think the average monthly wage is ~$20 U.S.) and go to the right places. People are generally really poor though friendly. One restaurant owner seemed exceptionally happy to serve me since it's the slow season for tourism this time of year and in ordering one meal I probably fed hid family for two weeks.

Additionally, Pol Pot really did a number on this country, you'll see civilian casualties in the cities - amputees (probably land mines) and acid burn victims. Pol Pot's death squads were exceptionally brutal, burying victims alive in mass graves. :(

Cambodia is back to being a kingdom and it's slowly recovering. Absolutely beautiful country from flooded rice plains to beaches to mountains. I'm staying out of the jungles though, lots of mosquitos and you never know if there's a rogue landmine out there.

BTW, that mountain that you see on the very far left in the photo above is Vietnam.

Fruit: Durian, jackfruit, rambutan, mangosteen, papaya, pineapple and a bunch of other fruit I don't know the names of. I've been having a lot of exotic fruit smoothies. As far as euphisms go, Cambodian women have awesome bodies, but rarely beautiful faces... leaning towards "do not want".

Today I spent time on the beach floating on an inner tube and then swimming in the pool in the afternoon, evening. I watched the stars while doing backstroke.

Yeah, was there 3 days ago. I've been to Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. I'll post photos in the other thread eventually.

Mostly Pol Pot. Haing S. Ngor, who survived the Khmer Rouge, wished he could be bombed by the USAF rather than live as he did.
