Also, 21:9 can be useful if you want to open applications side-by-side. It's ideal to have a 2 monitor setup for webdevelopment. Left source code, right browser with the rendered page. A 21:9 screen could emulate such a setup.

edit: but if the stated reason is to watch movies then that'd pretty dumb. All movies are 16:9 anyway.

Dude, 5 MS is just unacceptable. I don't know if you've ever used a monitor with that slow of a response time, but I have, and it is a fucking nightmare. Go 2 MS (or less) or don't do it at all.
This line only remake is total rubbish I've ever seen!!! Fuck off!!! --CZghost

No, actually Blu-rays are 24p and DVDs can be run at 24p, too, which has long been an advantage of running DVDs on a PC rather than a TV.

It's the DVD players that change it from 24p. You can get 24p Blu-ray players, and a PC would naturally be 24p as a player cause it is not restricted to the refresh rate of a TV screen.

No, about half are 16:9 and about half are 2.35:1 or 2.40:1, which 21:9 is a pretty good approximation of.

what kind of weird statement is that. Care to elaborate on that?
I want everything to be wider anyway, not just films. It's not about higher resolution it's about a wider screen. Pretty simple.
Wait, you are afraid of your 60Hz screen not displaying 24fps properly (a non issue, tbh) but seem to be careless about a 16:9 image being blown up to 21:9, causing the proportions of everything on the screen to be messed up. That doesnt make sense.

Damn, there's something wrong with most of what I want to buy; why can't people make stuff properly.

That doesn't make sense cause it's not true :olo:
I would have it run as what is called "pillar-box", where you have black bars on the left and right of an image narrower than the screen, as Plan B already stated in this thread. Please read the whole thread before replying :p

About the TVs; alot of TV broadcasts are not films, and you get things squashed even for 16:9, in the actual broadcast, so I am not interested in a TV when what I actually want is a 21:9 screen for watching films on. I'd rather have a screen that is made for handling 24p not a 50 Hz or 60 Hz broadcast. There are TVs which support both, but the only 21:9 TVs have only an SD tuner, no HD tuner (which is really what you want on an HDTV, FFS), and won't accept PC unput at the native res, only at 16:9, which defeats the point if you want to hook it up to a PC.

About the 24p; it's not a non-issue, hence the popularity of 24p Blu-ray players and TVs that support 24p.

You should be good with GTX 670/680 SLI.

There's a lot of single cards these days that will drive that kind of resolution just fine.

Is that 2-way SLI or 3-way you're talking about?

Looks like there's also 58" 21.9 2560 x 1080p TVs out.

This article says the 5 ms response time is grey-to-grey (GTG). So maybe it's not so bad? Mogul?
