they also said that the charging at night creates heat that is used to keep the instruments warm and they have a thermocoupler on there too, so that makes it more efficient, etc.

Those final moments, sky crane, lowering a small car sized 'rover' so far away bought to my eyes.

Imagine, some of you people, immortality (another topic) aside, might live to see a similar landing on the moons of Jupiter, even a far off world?

Thought, what if a similar (now read alien) object landed here and started to explore on its own accord, oblivious to us is you like

not really a simple answer...it should be a combination of one's income and the level of importance one places on an opportunity like that. Some of us would save for years, while others couldn't be bothered unless it was as cheap as a 3 day cruise to some dump in mexico. I'd pay 5-10 grand for a sit before I'd have to reevaluate my enthusiasm on the issue.

Do you think it's just a cooincidence that the Mars rover expedition is happening just as the movie Total Recall is coming to movie theaters? Do those Mars pictures remind you a little bit of desert Earth photographs? That's because they're being taken in ARIZONA, at a repurposed military installation. There is some serious money changing hands here and the government will do almost anything to keep you from finding out about it. In many ways, faking this expedition is way, way easier than it was during the Apollo years, due to no astronauts on the mission, comparable gravity, and atmosphere.

I dunno. I guess I'd be willing to spend a couple of thousand dollar on a few hours in space. It would be absolutely awesome to experience, but I guess that for that same amount of money, I could also spend a few weeks in some far away country where I could experience all kinds of things I've never experienced before either. So it's a bit hard to say.

It's a desert with a thin atmosphere, so you can't expect the most amazing of scenery. Besides, I believe it's taking photos more or less autonomously with one of the orientational cameras at this point so it's going to have problems framing the best shot with its basic sensor. I believe the photographic mast which the primary optical cameras are attached to hasn't been extended yet.
