Next X-Box specs and price leaked

Post by GONNAFISTYA »

Leaked document reveals next Xbox price, tech details
The document described a box of multiple CPUs and GPUs, allowing for backwards compatibility with the Xbox 360 through an included PowerPC CPU, an estimated 4-6x increase in graphics performance, and background processing enabling TV recording while playing games.

The plan aims for "True 1080p and Full 3D", implying an ability to run 60 fps games at 1080p resolution. The Kinect 2 hardware is included, allowing for four player concurrent tracking with improved voice recognition, dedicated hardware processing, and a "better, wider, deeper" play space allowing use in smaller areas.

The Xbox 720 is designed to be always on in a low-power state to allow for multimedia operation, to be "the only box you need for premium living room entertainment." Blu-Ray is included, along with USB 3.0, HDMI, 802.11n, Gigabit Ethernet, PCI-E, DisplayPort and SATA connectivity. Storage includes the Blu-ray drive, a hard disk drive, and flash storage as well. Video RAM is pegged at 4 GB of 128 bit DDR4 RAM.
Apparently it's only speculation, but it's a 56 page bit of speculation that was removed by Microsoft legal...which means it might not be speculation.

So they're making a glorified PVR/Blu-Ray combo and it'll have only average to slightly-above-average gaming performance when it's released (compared to what you can already get with current PCs or what'll be available when this thing comes out) and yet we'll be stuck with it with no new hardware upgrades for a decade.

And of course Microsoft will follow its life-long convention of stupid naming of its products. lol..the "X-Box 720" instead of "X-Box 360 2". Absolute geniuses at work right there.

Fuck Microsoft and fuck consoles.

This - it was from 2010 so is way off I would imagine. Even so, I think a 2013 release date will happen.

Also I dont get what the fuss is about with the specs? Every new console relased is always behind top end PC performance. It is just because its fixed hardware that programmers manage to get so much more out of it.

If it's old shit and not true anymore, then that's good news.

I guess my main gripe is that while I agree that programmers can refine and refine fixed hardware to get the most out of it, the hardware itself lessens the chance of new, more ambitious games getting made by the monied publishers. It's only cool for a while and then it simply gets in the way.

They should call it the X-Box 362.

If they call it X-Box 720, how many retards will think it's only 720p?

Maybe they should call it X-Box 1080 to indicate its resolution?

1080 is still a multiple of 360 though [3], so that makes it even more confusing. Maybe they are reserving that name for the third generation X-Box?

X-Box itself is a pretty dumb name though, and you're right about them being terrible product namers. Azure, Zune, SkyDrive? Silverlight. Vista. The whole 2000, then 2003, then 2007, then 2010 for Office. Fuck off with that shit. SQL: 2000, 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2 [which was released in 2010, so why not call it 2010?]. No consistency.

lol...I called it in January
GONNAFISTYA wrote:lol they're actually gonna call it the XBox720? What a bunch of retards. Not only are they completely uncreative in their naming conventions (hey man, it's like...double the 360 in every way) but naming it the "720" will do nothing to reinforce consumers that it's a true HD device, since the name practically screams "lowest HD res cause our box is shit".

They might as well call it the 320x240. :olo:

I'm sure they're not going to call it XBox 720. Right now, it's still referred to with it's codename "Durango".

Well, you should. The hardware Sony and MS are going to put out for their next consoles is probably the hardware games will be aimed at for the next, 7, 8, maybe 10 years. People are complaining that XBox 360 and PS3 are holding back graphics development in games right now, so there's definitely a relevance to what MS and Sony are doing to the PC crowd. To dismiss consoles just because you don't own them or play on them is a grave error.

Sony said they're aiming for a 10 year cycle with PS3. That's not going to be a reality but console development is costing quite a bit and I bet both MS and Sony want their hardware to stick around as long as possible.

I understand the connection from console->PC but honestly, the last game I played more than once every 5 months was Quake3. Just kind of fallen out of gaming, gotten more into audio and music lately. It's kind of a shame that all these console kiddies are ruining the show but money talks. Same old story. There still seems to be a fairly thriving indie culture for PC games though, which is good. Obviously that won't be driving the hardware scene forward but, it is what it is! Maybe one day all the console fucks will wake up and realize that KB&mouse > *.

So with the statement "who cares about xbox" you actually meant to say "I don't much play games at all anymore so I really have no real interest in this topic" :dork:

Well, yes and no. It was mostly an asshat statement, but I do have an interest in it. Just 'cause I don't play often doesn't mean I don't care about it.

This is supposed to be out for Christmas 2013. I wish someone would give Ballmer a copy of Steve Jobs bio and lock him in a room until he reads it or dies (hopefully the latter). They should never let him near a stage with a camera. What a douche.
