Any of you lot heard of this? It's a zombie mod for Arma 2 and it sounds stunningly awesome from all the stories people post about it. This mod has singlehandedly pushed Arma 2 in the topsellers list on steam for the past two weeks now, and it just keeps rising on that list. It must be really good.
I will buy Arma 2 and the Arrowhead expansion and proceed to play the fuck out of this game - but only if i find someone here to play with me. Because frankly it sounds too brutal to go at it alone
Yep, I've been playing, and it's fucking ace. It gets a little wearing because there's no vicinity based chat and it's incredibly hard to tell who's bad and who's good, but it's otherwise spectacular.
Just don't log in at night.
My first game has also been my longest. I eventually died of dehydration on an airstrip somewhere in the north.
My other two games, I've been killed unceremoniously and without warning by other players.
I think the best tactic may be just to high-tail it into the wilderness as soon as possible and learn how to live off the land.
Once they get vicinity based voice chat worked out, and zombies that aren't quite as buggy or badly animated, this will be epic. Hell, it already is really.
And Memph, this mod really is worth the price of entry. I never intend to seriously play vanilla ARMA 2, but Day Z? Fuck yeah.
It helps that the mod is made by one of the Bohemia Interactive guys, the devs who made ARMA in the first place.
Oh, by the way, the biggest problem with Day Z is that thanks to Reddit / RPS / Goons, it's impossible to find a slot on a server with a reasonable ping now
I read about that... also, i was trying to fetch the files from the DayZ server and it refused to load entirely for me last night, which i took as a bad sign. So i might wait a bit until they managed to deal with the influx of new players, put up some new servers and such. Sounds like they have their hands full atm.
So my latest sojourn into zombie land I joined the first server I could. Unfortunately it was Stateside, meaning lag made it impossible to kill zombies by any other method than emptying a clip into them. I got trapped in a shed, with my view being shaken by pain. Fortunately a couple of friendly guys found me, and once they'd established I wasn't a bandit, they escorted me away from that town, notifying me that bandits were probably on the way.
Having only just spawned, I only had a tin of beans, some flares, a water bottle and my Makarov, so I followed them in the hopes of picking up some better kit; after all, one of them had an AK.
Unfortunately, one of them drew the attention of some zombies which killed them both, and when I went to loot them, their weapons had gone.
So I high-tailed it to a near-by barn, inside which I found a crossbow, so I promptly logged off.
Everyone swears that the crossbow is a really bad weapon, but it's silent and the ammo's recoverable. I'm thinking I can find a hunting knife and some matches, wander off in to the wilderness and live off of game.
If I can find another server to log on to.
He really does, doesn't he?
I mean, at first I thought "That has to be a soundboard", but nope, the guy really does sound like Arnie, and he's definitely not putting the accent on
Ok it took some doing but i got it working - too bad i don't have time to play it right now. Logged into a server at nightime for like 5 minutes and walked around for a bit and ye gods it's fucking terrifying. Also because the controls are still a mystery to me.
Anyway, i'll be spending a lot of time in zombieland tomorrow i think
