Maybe it is to show just how driven he is to promote his business interests that his eagerness to progress at an age where wisdom might still elude him, becomes his kryptonite. Whereas Varys is shown to not only be intelligent but also wise.

First you said Varys was the snitch and I pointed out it wasn't Varys but Pycelle that snitched, then you say that you thought "they both failed the test" because "he acted all butthurt" about it. Considering that the context of the discussion up to that point was Varys and Pycelle, and you stating that you erroneously thought Varys was the snitch because an otherwise undefined "he" was acting all butthurt, it is the only option to conclude that you were saying Varys was acting butthurt. I correct you for a second time by pointing out that it was Littlefinger who was acting all butthurt and now you dare to say I can only remember one reply deep?
