You. Enlisted. As what? A shovel? Tent peg? Mop handle?

I got a letter from the army dudes yesterday...saying if I don't sign up in 10 days or less I'll be going to prison for ~10 years and paying up to a $50,000.00 fine. bahahahah.

Registering. Not the same thing as joining. I've been registered for 20 years and never had anything to do with the military.

edit: I don't know where you're from, but here we have to register with selective service once you turn 18. Been that way for a long time.

we decided there is no point in rushing marriage. we dont think we are at that point yet and rushing things can cause problems in the future.

In all honesty, change jobs as soon as you can. Before you go in would be even better. Go electronics, aviation, anything but combat-specific stuff. There is NO market for tank mechanics in the civilian world.
Now you may find out you love the army, but then again you may not. The safe bet is to plan on hating it, just in case you do want to get out you can ensure you have marketable skills.

i sat down with the recruiting officer and we talked about it and with my test scores i am pretty much able to do anything i want. i was told after 3 years i can change and retrain in something else if i like.

tank mechanic seemed really awesome to me. so i took it. after 3 years i am sure i will change it to a truck mechanic or something along those lines. as for a computer path, no fucking chance. i hate computer....more of a pasttime activity and not a job.

-Replicant- wrote:didn't read that your ambitions for the next few years as as high as military service...i don't know how canada works, but in the US the costs of delivering the child are astronomic. i'm sure your military paycheck will be sufficient to pay for all the costs of a child for the next 3 years, plus your gf...and yourself. congrats nonetheless
Ummm...if he is smart with his cash it will be plenty.
I've got buddies with families that are and have been in the military and their families have been fine with multiple children being well cared for. Remember in Canada our medical system costs us jack per month and if a person makes under 24k a year medical is almost free. Add to that the Canadian military fully pays all medical/dental/optical benefits and offer on-base housing for enlisted personnel at almost no cost and its not so bad.

The first thing I thought when I read your post is that you're fucked because she won't go for an abortion (being a proper christian girl and all).

Since you claim to be up to the challenge though. I wish you GL sir.
