kony 2012
Re: kony 2012
this thing was all over facebook yesterday, seems to be dying down a bit now that people are actually trying to find out about the story rather than just watching the video.
Re: kony 2012
I can't figure out whether taking Kony out of the Africa equasion is a) a reelection stunt by Obama b) a means to gather support from 4 the nations the LRA has been savaging all this time in order to get them to supply troops to the African Union force that's pacifying Somalia or c) a heartfelt, well meaning attempt to eliminate an extremely bad dude.
Maybe the answer is d) a bit of everthing.

Maybe punishing people who mutilate, torture, rape, and kill people for fun is just a good thing to do?
I love quake!
Re: kony 2012
But the dude has been at it for ages, so why now?

I see that speaking opinions as if they were absolutes is still the currency of this place.

If it is legit then it is a good effort I think
Too many cunts in Africa get away with all sorts of shit

Re: kony 2012
Sure, the intent is probably valid, but what irks me personally about these kind of viral promotions is that it results in people feeling like they have made some sort of ultimate sacrifice for some good cause and end up being very vocal about that, while in reality they've only spammed a link to a YouTube video on Facebook.Don Carlos wrote:If it is legit then it is a good effort I think

Re: kony 2012
Well yeah, but there are people that will do more than that and they are the people that count and the people who actually go about changing stuff.
Who here would have known about him if it wasn't for the dude who made that video? I didn't have a clue about him or what he had done...

Before anyone gives money to these folks, read this. It gives an insight into where this charity money is going to. And most of it is definitely not going to be spent on the cause they're lobbying for.
It also seems that this video was created to promote themselves rather than the problem at hand. The article hints upon this organization oversimplifying the situation in Africa. So what I fear will happen is that people are literally tricked into giving money for a cause that they do not truly understand. These people are probably even worse than the Facebook spammers I mentioned before, because they do give money, but they have no idea what they're giving money for, what happens to their money and what the effect of them giving money eventually is going to be.
Call me cynical, but I truly believe that the number of times people give to charity out of a sense of the need that it must be done is rare. Extremely rare. I'm sure 99.9% of people who donate to charity do this to feel good about themselves.

I'm going to start a charity that hires drones. It'll be named iSpy and we'll be based in a second hand Russian freighter rebuilt as a drone carrier. For a small donation you'll get to operate the camera function of the drone for a few minutes via the Interwebs.
Any and all pictures of atrocities will be insta-shared on facebook and you'll get to be the hero that uncovers the Cow Stealing Shitheads from the Dinka Dinka tribe looting and raping the neighbourhood villages. It'll be a real life game and it’s some next level shit.
Please support this noble project guys, i’m off to Kickstart as we speak.

I agree dude - but this dude is still a douche and I know about him now even if it is because of some video about self promotionEraser wrote:Before anyone gives money to these folks, read this. He is a douche. You'll find that he's not the only one in Africa. Or South-America. Or Asia....
Or Euromericastralia.
