I dunno, Rages facial animation wasn't terrible at all... It wasn't amazing, granted, but it was good. That one wingstick lass was pretty damn spot on.

Well at least there's no actual leaked alpha version (yet). I remember the D3 leaked alpha. It was like a really shit and unstable bunch of Q3 code and gun/item models with some D3 elements mixed in. All it was good for was crashing my PC every 2 minutes.

Don't believe? Look at any original Rage shots and compare them to the final (i.e. look at any of the old shots when designers had their way, then when Carmack got his way).

I like Carmack, I look up to him. The guys a hero. But he has bugger all of an idea on game design. Hes the reason Rage was so... So... Basic? No post processing? and the tiny bit you did was becaue they reached a stalemate? Wiga please...

One day Mr Carmack you will see that nicely done post processing can actually make a game better. Case in point? Go play Alan Wake........ maybe you might be too confused with how many options there are...

Why does a Doom game have characters?

Because all the people complaining about how games need to have compelling characters and story in order to have a good single player experience.

One of the main criticisms levelled at Doom 3 was that it was just the old gun and run fps of both the other dooms but with fancy graphics. Not much innovation when there was 10 years between games etc... ID's response. I know lets just make Doom 2 again with better graphics. Genius.

Then you have people who look at the character models and say, "why do we need character models, Doom should just be about running around and shooting things. Why don't they just make it like Doom 2 with better graphics?"

Really, FFS. There is no winning with people like this. id Software just needs to concentrate on doing the best at what they do and fuck the opinion of all the angry gaming nerds. My only expectation for Doom 4 is ever increasingly larger hordes from hell and being given an increasingly bigger gun every few levels - something id Software does rather well. I hardly care about anything else one way or another.

But not with memph. I agree with what he is saying to a certain dgree, but post process can help sell a certain feel. See' Saving Private Ryan, book Of Elie etc.
