you can only have space leadership if you're prepared to pay for it out of taxpayers' money. the private sector can't occupy the leadership position because leading in this context means taking serious risks whose benefits are difficult to quantify financially. meanwhile congress - not to mention the field of republican presidential candidates - is full of morons who think that the private sector *can* lead, and are busy trying to find ways to cut NASA's budget. they like the *idea* of space leadership, but aren't prepared to put money where their mouths are

did obama mention $6bn increase over 10 years? lol, really? that's about what britain spends on the NHS *in two weeks*. for a $14tn economy that's pathetic
