you fell the fuck off man
Re: MW4
i'd put that down to lack of sleep and/or beer/weed.

it looks like you've already reached the same conclusion but i'll say this anyway. trying to form a worldview based on selective research isn't going to do you any good, it's just going to do your swede in. getting feelings of mortality about contemporary civilisation (in the same way as you might feel a cold wave of personal fragility when you get your first cancer scare) is reasonable, we live in interesting times - but it's not very useful and doesn't warrant lengthy investigation.
indulge yourself for a day in horrible thoughts - think about the people you know and how they might react when the shit hits the fan, think about you might react. choose the right people, choose a muster point and make a plan for the first 12 hours. don't forget that a lot of the people that you might be seeing as sheep right now are only like that because they've chosen doublethink as the best path for survival, if the situation changes enough then they will too.
oic. thought because it was 5 hours long and damn near unwatchable that this might be a joke - where nobody could debunk the video without the argument being made that they haven't seen the whole thingMemphis wrote:Ok, i'll come clean. I'm lobbing barmy stuff down to see who, if anyone would have anything to say besides it being all crazy. Maybe i'll have a point, maybe i'll be proven embarassingly wrong, either way i'm happy. I don't mind being called a nutter just because i'm thinking about things that a lot of other people aren't and in many cases, simply refuse to.

"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people." - Eleanor Roosevelt
That one statement should explain exactly why most people talk about bullshit and not enough people talk about solving problems. The majority of humanity have small minds, or at the very least lazy minds. It's not anger, bitterness or any other bullshit reason people could tag on me for stating it...it's simply the truth: Humanity isn't all that intelligent, but a few of them are. Their intelligence and foresight is what got us to this point and it has the potential to make things better.
I like to think that the few smart ones are worth having all the fucking tards around.
Another huge problem is that not enough of the great minds are political leaders. And since most small minds won't vote for a smart person simply out of spite, we're stuck with idiots running the ship.

I think you're preaching for the wrong crowd. I get the impression that (and maybe I'm wrong in this, but I want to believe this) on Quake3World by average most people are a lot more critical about what other people (the media, politicians, celebs, etc) say and tend to think just a bit further than the average asshole living on this world. That is obviously not true for all of us here, but I think Q3W is in general a lot more progressive than your average American.
And you're absolutely right. A lot of shit is happening in this world that just doesn't fly and yes, mass media and entertainment is used to dull the senses of the people and control them. People are more concerned on not missing out on the next episode of Jersey Shore or X-Factor than they are about stuff like ACTA or the erosion of democracy and freedom in general.
There are still people standing up against this momentum. The Occupy movement was initially a slight glimmer of hope, but in the end it lost focus and didn't make much of a difference at all. The truth is that people do not want to think about things. They want to be told what to do and how to behave. People are (like) herd animals. Let us all look the same, do the same and act the same then at least you know you aren't considered strange, odd or weird by others. People are conditioned into this starting at elementary school (British school uniform policy is a nice example of this).
I think you need to accept this fact and learn to deal with it in a positive way. It's easy to become arrogant or elitist when you look around you and all you see is sheep bleating at each other. I know, I've been there and it hasn't brought me anything good.

I'm with 4days and Eraser on this... what you say is all too true but wallowing in it isn't going to do any good at all. Do your best to shove it to the back of your mind and try to keep up with the rest of the herd, so to speak.
Go find a job you don’t mind doing so much, build up a new social circle, hook up with a lady friend, move house if you hate your neighbourhood, start working out – all things that you can easily translate towards working on making sure you’re not fucked if any shit hits any fan - with the added side effect of making you a better, healthier, happier person.
This pattern of thought is profoundly unhealthy for the soul mate, it will make you feel miserable and very alone. Again, i don't think you're wrong about most of it, just saying it’s not going to help, at all.
Good luck sir

Re: MW4
I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV's while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be. We know things are bad - worse than bad. They're crazy. It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, 'Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone.' Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot - I don't want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad. You've got to say, 'I'm a HUMAN BEING, God damn it! My life has VALUE!' So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, 'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!' I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"
