Why are Americans so tough on criminals?

Post by The Mass »

I dont get it. Its not like locking people up reduces their crime rates, plus look how many innocent people are in u.s. Jails and how corrupt their court system is. I was reading this article how in Oregon some people withh my way of thinking actually realized how outrageous the Oregon sentences were compared to the rest of the world and tried to revert the law back or repeal these moralist and emotional measures:
http://www.crimevictimsunited.org/measure94/index.htm

Yet some stupid group named crime victims united stopped them and persuaded people to vote against it. Why cant we have opposite groups do thst every time these feel good morons try venting their frustrstions on others with harsher and harsher laws?

I didn't read a word above. But I will say that America, well, Colorado, at least, is fucking brutal on youth offense. The system is geared in a vindictive fashion. Harsh punishment, which combines drug offenses and property crimes with violent and repeat sexual offenders breeds the seed of superjail graduate culture.
We all need to provide stronger examples and speak up, being heard is half the battle. Petty tyranny steers the ship in this sinister engine of economic slavery.
