Starting quake III-like effort, needing mappers.
Hi, I'm starting out a quake III-based effort specially made on the mac appstore, and I'm needing mappers to make a specially made map pack. If anyone is interested please let me know in a reply. This is in early stages, I'm trying to see if there's enough interest in something like this. I welcome any replies, feedback and such.

Well, like I mentioned im planning on starting a fps like Quake III using idtech3, that's only available at launch on the appstore. I'm using freely available content like models and such at the begginning. I'd like to have something specially made that will interest people in the appstore, which is a map pack with maps that support all the different game modes like DM, team DM and such. This is mostly to see how the appstore works.

Which models and content are these exactly? I just wanted to note that the content included with Quake 3 are NOT freely available and are still protected by copyright. Same goes for all the graphics in the menu system and everything else - everything will need to be designed from scratch, only the code is available as part of the GPL license.
You may want to show examples of what you are actually working on and what you intend to do with it that makes it different than everything else. What are you contributing to the project, are you a programmer, texture artist, modeller? If you want to make a game using idTech3 for the AppStore, you are talking about a significant investment in time and resources, if you want people to help, you'd better be able to show everyone that YOU are up to the job, not just the person you are asking to help you make maps.

To be honest, this is not quite the incentive people are looking for. If you're setting up a project of this scale just "to see how the appstore works", then I'm sure nobody will want to follow you into your exploration project. Why not program a simple puzzle game or other useful app first and get that on the appstore first? It might work if it's an on-rails type shooter like the Rage for iOS game, but that would require some significant programming changes, which is why we would need more information on this project.

First off, all the replies welcomed. I'm not going to have any quake 3 assets in this, i know they're commercial and closed. I'm using freely available assets only. Also, i was intending on having thie effort on the mac appstore, not the iphone appstore. However, that on-rails game like rage on the iphone appstore sounds interesting. I'm not much of a coder, or a mapper, although I do know my way around radiant ,that's why im asking to recruit people, and mappers would be compensated. I have the mac appstore registered developer license, and I could be an investing partner.

I've managed to produce a few maps that somehow got downloaded tons of times, but tend to meet as much confusion as they do compliments.
You can see some of my maps floating around quake 3 world. I'd contribute a map or two to your project if you're interested.
