I started reading "The Good War" by Studs Terkel, an oral history of WWII, and the civilian reaction after the bombing of Pearl Harbor was amazing. Similar to the mongies in that news story, people absolutely freaked the fuck out when news of the bombing reached the mainland US. People were insisting that LA had been bombed, that San Francisco had been bombed, there were blackouts all up and down the West Coast. People were trying to avoid giving the Japs easy targets.
A few folks even went down to the beach with rifles to repel the filthy Jap invaders. :lol:
