Re: Streets of Rage Remake
When you say no MP, you mean no networked MP online, correct? One would hope couch co-op is still there. I haven't read the artickle.

Re: Streets of Rage Remake
that color scheme is horrid.Memphis wrote:This really is fucking brilliant. All 3 SoR games built from the ground up and made into one big game with all the characters, levels, lots of extras and above all, remastered music. Shedloads of options to mix and match the feel of the games is also sodding ace. Play SoR2 now on an emulator and you'll notice one thing; it's bloody slooooow. In this you can play SoR2 with SoR3's speed with Adam from SoR1.
Multiple routes through the game make it plenty replayable, plus there's guff to be unlocked with points from completing it. Even has an AI for player 2.
Marvellous. Wallow in some sweet nostalgia today.![]()

Re: Streets of Rage Remake
How can they make such a great remake and yet have that awful website? (unless it's just my firefox that has a static night-time city shot with unreadable grey text over it?)
Re: Streets of Rage Remake
Well jeez, that's a massive help, now I can actually read it.
Based on the thread, I just thought this was something that someone was currently working on. I didn't realize it was already finished, and free to boot. Will give it a shot later

Re: Streets of Rage Remake
they expected anything else?
you may not like it but it still is Sega's IP.

Goddamn, just as I went to download it this morning >.<

Kindly inform the friend of your friend that he has a very masculine chest and handsomely shaped ears.
Re: Streets of Rage Remake
Why would Sega EVER do anything smart...?
Christ they even fucked up a 2d Sonic game by just not having a clue what people wanted...
I expect nothing less than pure ignorance from them.

Re: Streets of Rage Remake
We've had this discussion before but some people have selective memories so lets go over it again:
Companies protect their IP from harmless fan remakes like this because failure to protect IP can be brought to bear in potential future legal cases where someone else rips off a product and actually tries to sell it for profit.
The only reason it's happened now and not earlier is because the remake drew too much attention, past the point that Sega could credibly claim that they hadn't noticed it.

Re: Streets of Rage Remake
I think they hope to protect their iPhone Streets of Rage sales as well. I mean, couldn't Sega simply have given the team that worked on the remake a license to do so if they were really afraid of losing IP rights?
Re: Streets of Rage Remake
I'm not following how mobile and PC gaming are competitors.
But sure, I guess.

Re: Streets of Rage Remake
They had noticed it, however. Back when the devs asked Sega for permission, and Sega was all over it.
So its a dick move because they did a 3186 degree turn from what they previously said, AFTER the work was done.
Not that I'm shocked at all, to be honest. The Sega that exists these days is pathetic, they don't deserve the name. Can anybody name a single gem they have pushed out in the last five years that wasn't a pointless port?

You don't "lose" IP rights.Eraser wrote:I think they hope to protect their iPhone Streets of Rage sales as well. I mean, couldn't Sega simply have given the team that worked on the remake a license to do so if they were really afraid of losing IP rights?
You also don't intentionally weaken the value of something by selectively licensing your IP for free.
I deal with this constantly in my job, and my girlfriend also happens to be an IP solicitor. Why should they get a license just because it's fan-made? If this remake gets them publicity that they wouldn't have ordinarily got without that license, then that remake has indirectly contributed to their future commercial success, which Sega deserves to be compensated for.
Re: Streets of Rage Remake
Thankfully, once it's on the net, it's impossible to control it. Pretty easy to find mirrors of it. I loved SOR so i'll be sure to give it a go later.
Re: Streets of Rage Remake
I was always under the impression that, like Foo said, companies protect their IP rights because it could have nasty after effects if you don't. Calling it "losing IP rights" is probably incorrect yes.Yeahso wrote:You don't "lose" IP rights.
There have been prior examples of where this did in fact happen, so it certainly wouldn't be a first.Yeahso wrote: You also don't intentionally weaken the value of something by selectively licensing your IP for free.
Re: Streets of Rage Remake
Actually, as far as companies enforcing their IP, it's completely implausible and I think you'll struggle to find a precedent.Memphis wrote:it's plausable.
Also I just played this game, and it turned into repetitive boring shit after about three minutes and helped me realise just how far things have come.
Re: Streets of Rage Remake
That's true ey, most older games are only still fun if you can live off the nostalgia. If you never played them in the first place they're chuff.
There's a few that are still really good - Dungeon Keeper and Transport Tycoon are still playable if you can get past the graphics. Shame that DK remake turned out to be fucking tower defense and not faithful.
