new gfx card

Post by ^Ghost »

i think my gfx card is going to crap out on me soon, if not it already has, when i log into Windows the screen flashes "display driver stopped responding" (this is nothing new), but now my entire screen is loaded with artifacts (they disappear after 10th seconds or so. I'm pretty sure its my gfx card, if it is I'm looking to buy a new one, my current one is the evga gtx 275, i can either replace it with a bfg gtx 275, or i can upgrade entirely. this is where I need some opinions on, either stay with the 275 or get a slightly better upgrade.

if i decide to upgrade entirely what are good gfx cards to choose from, preferably nvidia

if you are OC'ing clock it down a bit and see what happens.

i get the display driver stopped responding with my EVGA GT220 sometimes, very rare and no artifacts no OC tho,

Try downclocking a bit and see if you still get artifacts. If it persists, try the oven bake method (not kidding):

yeah ill mess with those settings later, just wanna use the pc right now, thanks for the quick input.

btw i was lookin online at gfx cards, man they made so many more in such a short time, i bought mine about a year ago, and at that time it was top of the line.

started looking a the 500 series. http://www.microcenter.com/single_produ ... id=0356463
seems like this is the best bang for the buck, since all the other 500's are over 300 USD

Aren't the Ti series "budget" cards? I'm pretty sure the GTX 460 will outperform the GTX 560Ti, especially when overclocked.

this is a bit off topic, but i dont feel like making a new thread.

for any1 that plays cod:mw (1 not 2), on win7, does your pc freeze up and get a buzzing sound (sort of like the BSD noise) except no blue screen, just freezes up and loud buzzing noise, forcing you to hold the power off.

thing is this happens all the time, playing time can vary, can happen within 5 minutes of playing, or 2 hours of playing, and im pretty sure its not an overheating issue, card rarely goes over 75 celsius

what do you mean BSD noise ? BSOD don't make a sound.

do you hear your fan spinning like crazy ? or the hard drive ?

75C i'd say is to high.

i don't go over 55C on load

check that vid card and or reapply compound and test again.

the gtx 275 is known for having high temps, my gfx card idle's at 55C, even changed the thermal paste as well.

everything is fine, only when playing that game, does my pc crash, its really weird, i can play crysis for hours maxed graphics and nothing, i play modern warfare for 1 hour and it crashes.

55C idle is to high, somethings wrong

i idle at 32-35C

wait for more responses

and if you're OC'ing go back to factory defaults and test again.

and make sure you have the latest drivers

Your card sounds fucked dude...my card idles at 29 and under full load it doesn't go higher than 50, though I do have some fat fans blowing through to cool everything (my processor idles at 21 and it's OC 800mhz)

its always been that high, ive set everything to factory defaults, then again, i dont have the best case there is for cooling,
and the ambient room temp is about 73F

like i said, i did my research the evga gtx 275 is known for having high temps.

edit: i think this is where i read it http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=165600&mpage=1

My idle is also at 32 with a 460 1gb, but my older 260 idled around 45-50. I also think the 200 series were hotter running cards.

found out that the loud buzzing noise + pc freezing up is due to onboard sound, realized this after buying a new sound card :D doesnt happen anymore lol.

so in short all my issues are fixed :D

Moreover on this subject, Can anyone think of a benchmark/etc that would stretch some SLI legs?

what res are your benchies at ?

run something like stone giant or unigine heaven or anno 1404 at your highest res then compare

or just do the metro 2033 test on one card then with SLI, then check for results on google
