Overclocking my Core 2 Duo

Post by bitWISE »

Just upgraded to some OCZ 1066 mhz ram and picked up a new cpu cooler so I could try maxing out my E8500.

That's as far as I can get for now. The temps are still great but I can't find the right combination of settings to get her stable over a 465 bus.

ah well kinda useless, unless my pc is under some heavy load. multiplier drops to 12 when not doing anything,

i had to compile the map to put it under some heavy load (as noted in my previous post,) for the multiplier to actually jump up to 21.. my pc doesnt stay clocked at max settings, only when it needs to be.

can these ridiculous (and i assume heavy) fans damage vertically mounted motherboards by putting untoward amounts of strain on them? is it better to mount them horizontally so the weight is more evenly distributed?

As long as you have a decently designed cooler with a proper mounting mechanism and you're not juggling your computer, they should work fine.

I have this one (they sold me with the pretty brunette):
