Sounds like Giffords is making great progress. Makes you wonder if she'll want to continue on with her political career as a congresswoman after she's out of the hospital. Granted she'll probably have a tremendous amount of physical and mental therapy in the months or years to come.

That's just wildly optimistic, as a rule adults don't recover 100% from serious brain trauma. Or anywhere near 100% for that matter. I'll be extremely surprised if she does...

For some reason you seem convinced she'll come out of this speaking in coherent sentences, which imo is verrry much the question. As is, for instance, her ability to not involuntarily shit herself or her regaining full control of her limbs or even being able to distinguish the colour green from the smell of onions. Yes, the fact that she can sort of communicate with her eyes and wiggle her toes is a good sign, but don't get your hopes up. As i understand she hasn't spoken yet, which is not good.

Severe brain trauma seriously fucks you up and as an adult the damage done is usually permanent and hardly fixable through hard work. It's a whole different story with children by the way, thank fuck. But yeah, life is not a movie where the hero defies all odds and becomes an inspirational fairy tale. Sure it happens occasionally, just like people sometimes win the lottery too.
