Maze-eur 2

Maze-eur 2

Yes, the title of the map has changed to "Maze-eur 2" and does not reflect the fact that this is the "second" thread about this map.

I spoke with Obsidian about the old thread, and he recommended I start a new thread.

---

The map name is "Maze-eur 2" because there is actually a previous version of this map--called "Maze-eur"--that has already been released as "final" and submitted to lvlworld:
http://lvlworld.com/review.php?mapsDir=h&id=2044&mxd= (btw, if anyone can tell me what that guy's comment "vse umrut" means in english, that'd be great)

The map was intended to be a simple fun map with lots of LOS and boxiness. The key feature though for me though was the idea that someone could bounce up on top of the maze walls and travel/jump from wall to wall if player wishes to do so, hence the "fun" aspect of the map.

I admit, it's not a professional map.

---

I took in the feedback and decided to act on it and thus I have a version of the same map but with somewhat significant changes to it.

Almost seems like a pathetic attempt on my part to create a new map by effortlessly taking a map i made before and making tweaks to it and wallah! a new map! No. I personally don't like that.

This will be the first and last time I do something like this. My next map will actually be a NEW map.

---

More info coming soon.

I saw your original map on lvlworld and I think it looks fun. I might try to give it a spin later if I get a chance. I'm trying to finish a few maps of my own, but really....I'm kinda tired of doing things that are really intended to break q3map2 (for now, I'll never give up until i'm done and it's all good and broken.) So, working on a map that looks like yours seems like it'd be easy to pick up work with and it'd be a nice vacation from my horrible nightmare maps.

I'd be happy to help.

same issue here, I could only see your old map on lvl world, none of the other links worked for me either.

Thanks your interest,
"Everybody Dies But Me" has been the official translation of a russian film originally entitled "Vse umrut, a ya ostanus", but no guarantee that this is what that user meant to say/write.

Thanks.

I'm actually have second thoughts about putting this on to someone's shoulders. The map has changed a lot since the version you saw and a lot more structure, brushes, entities, etc., and I able to figure out the problem I was having with radiant and I could push to finish this map myself, or at least finish it to a state where there's no cleanup for you to do and thus you have more freedom to add or adjust stuff.

I'll go with finishing up to a good state, and then let you check it out and you can take a quick look and decide whether you want to work with it or not.

Hi guys,

I'm having a couple of issues with my map when I do a BSP compile on it.

I searched for the error messages in the Q3A_Common_Error_Messagesv1.5.pdf from Common Error Messages thread, but it did not find any.

I tried searching "percent structural map detected", and searched "Entity leaked"

Normally my editor can find leaks, but the rare time it can't I then use Radiant and load the Pointfile to find the leak. But this time not even Radiant is drawing any red lines on my grid when I load the pointfile. I'm--for the first time--at a loss for resolving a leak.

Help.

Convert some structural brushes to detail. This is important for optimizing -vis and it may cause problems for the point file.

Thanks Obsidian,

BTW, inside viewtopic.php?t=3620 I could not get any of the links to work:
- Spog's technical explanation of BSP's, hints, PVS and portals: http://www.planetquake.com/spog/stuff/technical.html
- Old discussion: http://www.quake3world.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/028057.html (not 404, but blank white page?)
- Q's sample map thread (4 pages): (all 4 links blank white page?)
- Bill Brook's hint tutorial: http://fps.brainerd.net/hintbrushes.htm (404)
- Spog's archived thread (2 pages): (both links blank white page?)
- Plan B's take on Caulk Hull/Overdraw/Hinting: http://www.quake3world.com/ubb/Archives ... 22411.html (blank white page?)
- djbob's Hints: http://web.archive.org/web/200310190842 ... 19324.html (timed out)

Is it just me?

No, they're old archived threads that aren't available anymore.
