Geography fail, Gamestop is in the US, not the UK. Also, total fail as I haven't worked in retail in a LONG time. But keep it up sir, I'm sure what I do can never beat your YouTube acting career or drawing ability.
You won't be working sales at Gamestop much longer if you keep this up, o'dium.

i played it at Lolla... was pretty meh.
best physics of any gt game ever... but felt pretty stale. Though the 458 italia is fucking gorgeously modeled and I'll probably still buy it since I'm a sucker.

It's almost here: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/title ... smo/707739

I still need to pick up a PS3. I'm also thinking about picking up the obutto cockpit (http://www.obutto.com/). I still have my old Logitech DFP from the GT4 days. It should still work even though I haven't used it in more than 4 years.

Okay, this is just taking the piss.
You'll only be able to play Polyphony Digital's PlayStation 3 exclusive racer Gran Turismo 5 online if you download a day one update
So... wait... what? They took bloody 5 years to make the perfect racing sim game but couldn't be arsed to actually get online multiplayer working? What a fucking joke.

Also:
The update is in addition to GT5's 6.4GB optional hour-long install
Sorry, but what again? Does the PS3 take an hour to copy 6.4GB from a BR disc to it's harddrive? roflcopters and whatnot.

a lot of games have day-1 patches. black ops had a patch the first day.

gta4 had an install that took nearly an hour and you couldn't do shit until it was done.

That doesn't make it right, though.

edit:
and I'm pretty sure Black Ops' patch wasn't about actually getting the multiplayer mode to work.

86 average at the moment, mainly because of a few 8/10 reviews from sites like cvg.

I read that review code for this game only came out on Monday. How can anyone expect to review a game the size of GT5 in only 2 days? Way too many journals are concerned more about getting their reviews out first than actually playing a game to completion and discovering all it has to offer. I haven't played GT5, but if its anything like the others, it is a game that demands serious investment to get all it has to offer.

And yeah, 8/10 shouldn't be considered a bad score, but certainly disappointing when 9 seems to be the gold standard in the gaming press.

if i didnt patch black ops then i wouldnt have been able to play online.

also, a lot of copies of gran turismo have made it out into the wild weeks before the game officially shipped. in that case it makes sense to have the mp nerfed until release. the patch is trivial. anyone playing the game online will be able to download and install the patch in a matter of minutes whereas those who aren't will never know the difference. the game isn't being shipped broken.

While I do partially agree with you, I'm not sure if it goes all the way for a game like GT5. Sure, it has loads of content, but all that content comes in the form of more cars and more tracks. With a racing game, one can pretty accurately review it based on a few hours of gameplay. If a journalist puts some serious time into the game in two days, then that gets a far more accurate idea of what the game is like than with a game that's more storyline driven or introduces new gameplay mechanics bit by bit throughout the game (like Portal).
In the end, if you've unlocked and driven all cars/tracks then the game doesn't open up some sort of new layer of gameplay that was hidden before.

Yeah, but it's also a racing game. By that notion, if you've played one racing game, you've played them all :)

The depth and seperation comes from unlocking new cars, new tracks, new gameplay mechanics etc... and in that respect, it is a game that takes a lot more involvement than a few days racing around the first few tracks, with the first few cars.

And thats the point. I find it highly unlikely that you can unlock and drive all the cars in two days. In my experience with GT, all the cars drive VERY differently and your experience in a race (and subsequently the game as a whole) changes drastically depending on the car you are using.

I just think it's lazy journalism, with the emphasis on getting the first review out rather than exploring everything a game has to offer and then giving a subjective, honest review. I hate gamespot, but you have to give them props for waiting a week with the GT5 review, just so they can unlock and review it thoroughly.

I don't usually like "straight" racing games, being more of a Wipeout / F-Zero kind of guy, but even just doing the B-license has really grabbed me. There looks to be a stupid amount of stuff in this game, and I doubt I'll ever unlock it all.
My only complaints so far are loading times, even with a hard disk install, and lack of feedback on some of the menus.
