It wouldnt matter if everyone in the world had Q3gold like we do as we're under the same license BUT there ARE people still out there with only Q3 and it would be illegal to distribute those textures.
Im sure it would be VERY easy to get better textures than Q3TA as they're ~10 years old now.

I would have a re-read of the EULA if i were you, It clearly states about the distribution of game assets is illegal.
by you uploading your maps to the internet with game assets it would be classed as distributing them

end of story, sorry Dessicated theres no way around this.

You are an idiot, you're saying that I can't go and put a texture in some map. You guys do it, so. And when it said you can't take away any content from the game it pretty much meant you can not put it in another game. Quake 3 and TA are the same.

Holy Cow. I wish I still had my copy of TA. But needless to say I have to agree with Delirium with the fact of getting better Textures than TA (no pun to ID on that) cause TA has some cool new Textures/shaders. But all in all the ends don't justify the means. There are some things that just can't be done.

Even if you have me on ignore I have a sneaking suspicion that you're going to look at my post anyways so I'm going to go ahead and say it.

You should stop posting here.

You ask for help/advice and then argue against people who know much more than you about the subject. You argue in ignorance and display an incredible amount of arrogance to the community here.

I'm surprised the people replying still have the patience to deal with you.

You're just flat out rude and unappreciative of the help you receive.

Come back when you can stop being a jackass and actually listen to people when you ask for their input.

If it's illegal to use textures from Quake 3 then why do you guys do it? And yet you tell me not to.

"This post was made by Silicone_Milk who is currently on your ignore list."

Give up! You can't annoy me anymore.

There seems to be some confusion here.
Dessicated corpse, the EULA doesn't say you can't use textures. You are right in that.

What it does say is that you can't take these texture files from the pak0.pk3 and add them to your mymap.pk3.
You are free to use the TA textures in your .map file. When I download it my Quake3 with TA install will recognize what you used and load the appropriate textures.
If I didnt have TA installed, it would error out on missing textures.

You would be able to fix this by physically including the .tga files in your distributed pk3 file. This, however, is the part that is illegal.

So. use the stock textures to your hearts desire. Just don't bundle them in your pk3.

(You are allowed to bundle your homemade textures btw, as long as they werent distilled from any other commercial product, e.g. Unreal Tournament)

Wow, you finally understood someone.

Where didn't I understand you when I said that it's illegal to redistribute textures?

Exactly, no one said you CANT use the textures. We were ALL stating the fact it was illegal to redistribute them.

Oh, and as for Unreal textures in Q3, trust me, they look like utter shite... A huge problem with Unreal was that it was a stunning game, until you turned detail textures off... In Q3, they would just look poor...

@Eraser

Haha, what a dick. You said it was illegal to have Quake 3 textures included in your map.

@Delirium

Yes you did!

@o'dium

I actually only wanted to try out 2 textures.

Dessicated Corpse:

Everyone in this discussion (myself included) has said that it is illegal to distribute copyrighted textures. That is what we are talking about. You are the only one who is talking about using textures. Had you actually read our comments, you would have understood this. This seems to be your recurring problem where you don't read what other people tell you and then confuse everyone by going off on some tangent.

This is a discussion board and if you want to continue to participate on this forum, you're going to have to make some effort to actually have a discussion with the other members rather than sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling.

Finally, insulting other forum members - especially those who are genuinely trying to help you - is strictly not tolerated. Consider this a formal warning.
