I have Blue Shield for $60/month. Cheapest I could find; worthless for anything but catastrophic. The deductible is like $8,000. Good coverage plans start are around $200. I'll be better off in two years when psuedo-universal health care takes effect.

That doesn't sound like Canada.

britain as a country has many serious flaws, but threads like this remind me that there are at least some areas where we kick the rest of the world's arse

I have blue cross - not bad for individuals when provided through your employer.
Rape if you add additional family members to your policy through many plans though.
This is correct. I get it free from my employer, but if I added my wife it would be ridiculous.

I get it free as well, plus they put an amount to the side on a monthly basis to cover the impending deductibles, pretty sweet deal, if that's all you can afford.

Not in america, and if you can it wont cover shit.

Our health plans suck. I have "Good" insurance and it didnt even cover my fucking blood work last time. Well it covered 18$ of the 200$.

We pay $225 a month for my wife's insurance. Last year she had an ER visit that included an MRI, our responsibility came to over $1500 AFTER insurance paid their share.

Overall we had paid in well over $8k since starting her on that particular plan, and when we finally have to use it for something that totaled about $3500 when you factor in the ridiculous ER costs, we were left with a bill of $1500. In her case we would have been much better off not having insurance and just putting money into an account - but the second you do that Murphy's Law kicks in and you get into some accident that leaves you with $30,000 in costs or some damn thing.

Good to know we still live in a country where a sick child can bankrupt his or her parents.

It's the American way. Also it's your own fault if you get sick.

That 'it's your fault' attitude might be why many pride themselves on stuff like coming into work sick. Fuck the fact that we're making everyone else sick or slowing our own recovery, in America the guy who drags himself into work with tuberculosis is a real trooper and dedicated employee. We get some students who are emphatic about keeping their perfect attendance record intact so they'll come into school barely able to stay conscious and have their parents bitch out of the counselors or teachers if we try to send them back home for their own good.

the only good thing about public education in this country are the benefits, which has nothing to do with education as, clearly, there is nothing good about pub ed in this country. it doesn't cost me anything for health\dental\vision, nor does it cost anything to put anyone else on plan.
