Might as well do an almost 2 year update here - Back to P90X for another go (injuries unrelated to the workouts screwed up my previous attempts about 2/3 of the way through them) - started the 2nd week today. Cancelled my gym membership again too - was back to the traditional stuff for awhile and it was fine, but I'm at a point where the P90X workouts are just better suited to my overall goals and I honestly don't see myself ever needing a gym again unless its for access to stuff like elliptical trainers or other non-impact styles of cardio to help my knees.

I know we've had more than enough of 'Hey guys can someone make me a workout'? threads, but I want to make yet another recommendation of P90X to anyone who is looking for a training plan and wants to get into the best overall shape of their life. I've got quite a few people to give it a try who would have never otherwise considered it and they now swear by it.
It's not for everyone - if you are training for nothing but size or pure strength then stick with the heavy weights, rest periods between sets, all that stuff. I did it for years when my only goal was to be as strong as possible.

So if anyone is still looking for a good workout routine, consider it. It's as close to foolproof as you can get - some people spend years at a gym and their physique never changes - they are always fat or skinny or whatever because they don't know what the hell they are doing (both in and out of the gym as their diets probably suck). This takes all the guesswork out of it. It's a perfect way to boost your performance in sports too if you still play them.

And once you get into it you can invite doubters to go through one of the advanced workouts with you and watch them crap out before its even over.

Update on my work out plan;

Running twice a week, tennis and a healthy diet. Result? Gained half a stone!

Apparently its to do with anabolic resperation and the lack of fat burning + muscle building...anyone care to comment?

Anyway - fitness levels are much higher than they were which is great. I just need to see some weight loss now...

Never use your weight alone as a measure of overall condition. Many women look better five pounds heavier than they might already be but with a different body composition.

Muscle is more dense than fat, you could very well be replacing the same volume of fat for muscle and gaining weight.

Yeah I guess so...I just need to get rid of this gut! I am happy with the way things are going: just come back from a 1 1/2 hour tennis marathon. Second game in 2 days and I have another one on Thursday

ah this old thread :)

This is my 30th week of crossfit, still kickin ass. I got my level one certification two weeks ago, and the gym I run got it's official affiliation with crossfit HQ a month or so ago with me as the head trainer and on top of still writing all the programming I now run the website too which is time consuming in itself sometimes...

saturday was another body fat test, I weighed in at 181.2lbs and with a 7-point test, totaled 6.83% body fat, lean body mass of 168.8lbs.

here's me doin some double unders on friday (by some i mean 500 in 10 minutes flat)

This weekend is the two-day gymnastics course and certification, can't wait for that.

here's one from last week... wall ball shots are one of my favorites even though they are tiring. That tape is the 10ft target

How tall are you Andy? I'm 6'1" and was 210 when I stepped on the scale today - but I'm not at 6% bodyfat for sure - I'm hoping to lean out at about 185 over the next 3 months or so.

I have to agree with that statement. I've done it Don and it works. It's not easy though, you really have to put yourself in the mindset that you're going to do it no matter what.

I did P90X for 5 weeks and lost roughly 15lbs. I did stop however because we had a baby but I plan on starting again once the baby sleeps through the night so I can get a decent nights sleep and feel rested. Something I haven't had in 6 months now.

However, that said, I felt awsome while doing P90X and felt really out of shape when I started. I was 195lbs and dropped to 180lbs however I kept losing weight after I stopped working out for a few months oddly, don't know why but I attributed it to P90X. You can find the vids online for free if you really want to.

Don't overdo it when you start too... plyometrics is quite evil and yoga is pretty intense. My girlfriend can now do pull ups since she started doing P90X too and she couldn't before. I could keep going about the benefits I was pretty impressed.
