i never understood why people got upset at the jews or whoever for killing jesus because wasn't the fucking point that he had to die? He knew, god knew, if anything we should thank them for doing the deed and fulfilling the prophecy. I always figured it's one of the things where people are just using it as an excuse to hate someone they already do for worse reasons, similar to "WHERES THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE" when really they just want to say "[LOL RACISM]".

aye-ish. within the context of christianity/bible study, blaming the jews means not accepting your own christian guilt and not accepting the resurrection (jesus died for our sins. the bible is pre-romero, so resurrection wasn't seen as a bad thing). anyone you hear blaming the jews has no right to call themselves a christian. jews were implicated in the death of jesus but like NS said, they didn't have their hands on the hammer. the important/famous bit of the story where pilate let the other guy go free doesn't even mention the jews specifically (depending on which version of the bible you read).

you could say that the christkiller notion continues because there's a bit of typically infuriating religious doublethink in that the jews are doomed to be judged and found wanting (along with all the other non-christians) soon after the founding of their state, which precedes the rapture/revelation/ultimate all-star sequel - but it's difficult for modern christians to validate near-globicide without recognising the weakness of their own faith. the notion that jews killed christ gets to survive to make christians feel better about jews all being bound for hell. a christian can't even examine that notion and find it wanting without making some small judgement on the jews, and then they're comfortably back within the main tenet of their faith: i forgive you*
