I got the opposite notion: that if it was the first movie in the series I'd appreciate it more. Even the music was beat for beat to the original because the story hit its tired, worn-out bullet points in the same way as the original.LawL wrote:If you experienced and loved the original as a kid you will enjoy Predators.
The reality is that it's horribly clichéd to the point where I firmly believe the entirety of both franchises (Predator and Alien/Xenophorph) are beyond saving and should be allowed to die (something we both know Fox won't let happen). The Russian guy with the minigun? Anyone else have that guy from TF2 in their head say,"I am heavy weapons guy..." whenever the Russian let loose with 30,000 rounds? Which seemed to be every couple of minutes...even after knowing they needed to conserve ammo. It seemed the only reason anyone said to conserve ammo was to sound somewhat intelligent...but that whole idea would be flushed down the shitter within 45 seconds when they'd all unload hundreds of rounds each...at tree bark. All of the characters in this travesty were so one dimensional and cannon-fodder-forgetful that when one of the group mentioned someone was missing I had no idea who he was talking about...and didn't really care. And just once I'd like to see a hot redhead with pretty green eyes be the "butch fightin chick" instead of the been-done-a-billion-times "hispanic-based" dark haired chick that we've seen in every action movie since 1983.
For someone who claims to be a movie buff...fuck you for thinking that the future of film should be half-assed retreads that ruin the legacy of the original...you goddamned fag.

You didn't like the score because it was so close to the original? That was the best fuckin' thing about the score, faggot.GONNAFISTYA wrote:I got the opposite notion: that if it was the first movie in the series I'd appreciate it more. And you're all bent out of shape because they weren't conserving enough ammo? Give me a fucking break.
The characters were fucking great for this type of film. What the fuck were expecting, Oceans 11? Can you remember what the characters were like in the original? No you can't.
Saying that this ruins the legacy of the original is gayer than Richard Simmons jacking off in a dildo forest. AvP 1 and 2 were shit films, but I feel sorry for you elitist nerds who can't enjoy a film like this.

Despicable Me - 8/10
Amusing movie with a little "spy vs spy" action in there between Gru and Vector as they try to outdo each other as "greatest villian". Some kids are thrown in to the mix and provide a way for us to see that Gru isn't such a bad guy after all.

Actully the template was the female character that shows up in each predator film. There is always at least one woman who fits that description. Call it a tradition.seremtan wrote:the template was vasquez in aliens: female, hispanic and feminist demographics covered all in oneGONNAFISTYA wrote:the been-done-a-billion-times "hispanic-based" dark haired chick that we've seen in every action movie since 1983.
Gonnaeatya missed the point. He was likely too busy ordering several hot dogs and popcorn baskets every 10 minutes rather than watching the film.

It's not about conserving ammo...it's about appearing to be combat-hardened, badassed and worthy of being hunted by the Predators. These guys were morons who couldn't shoot straight or even maintain character from scene to scene. Up until the 30 minute mark I thought these idiots were the cannon fodder that would establish the setting for when the real badasses would show up. Nope...I had to endure this group for the whole film...hoping they'd all die very soon.
It goes directly to what Pauly said about giving a shit about the characters and hoping they survived. I can remember vividly the characters in the original, their personalities and the ways they interacted amongst the group...which is why that movie owned so hard. Not one of them was Hillbilly Bucktooth: The Bitch-Rapin Moron.

I'm not talking about just the Predator films. Loads of movies and television shows have that same character in them. Off the top of my head the most recent example is Avatar.o'dium wrote:Actully the template was the female character that shows up in each predator film. I'm actually quite positive that Michelle Rodriguez can't get any other role except "angry, hard-assed, gun-totin tit-swinger". Hell...even her IMDB page says "Known for tough-chick roles".

Repo Men 7/10
One of those near future sci fi action flicks, only this one is actually quite decent. Pretty original story for it's genre, solid choice of music, nice camerawork, the protagonist stabbing his way through a hallway full of corporate executives, etc. Just an allround good one.
I'd almost give it an eight!

Re: The last movie you saw
I didn't have any big expectations of the characters and ended up quite pleasantly surprised. Brody I thought was great as the lead role, admittedly I've found that most seem to disagree with this though. The only thing I can remember seeing him in in recent memory is King Kong, so when I was watching him I couldn't see his character from The Pianist or anything like that - which is what seems to have ruined his character for a lot of people, they can't seem to detach from a certain typecast. If they tried the big, muscular, alpha dude as the lead role like they did in the original I don't think it would have worked.GONNAFISTYA wrote:LawL wrote:gayer than Richard Simmons jacking off in a dildo forest.

A good example of a similar film which for me perfectly exemplifies the "I couldn't give a fuck about any of the characters" notion is The Hills Have Eyes 2. If you've seen it you'll understand what I mean. I felt totally different about the characters in Predators.
Nothing can reproduce the badass action characters of the 80s. Predator had the awesomeness of Arnie, Jesse "The Body" Ventura and Apollo Creed just to name a few.
Just out of curiosity how do you rate the Predator films from best to worst? Don't give me a "the first was the best and the rest all suck" answer either.
I rate them like this:
Predator
Predators
Predator 2
AvP
AvP 2
Thick, solid and tight in all the right places.

I'd rate them in the same order I guess. Predator 2 had more memorable moments than Predators but the sequels after the original really do teh suck.LawL wrote:I rate them like this:
