So I decided to make my post, hoping it would enlighten you on the silliness of your original remark. As well as subdue the flame which I saw starting to be directed towards BA. You accusations towards me set me off, and my response was heated, and then this thread turned into R&R. And to top it off, that fucking monkey diego, who most definitely takes R&R WAY to seriously, starts in trying to alleviate his R&R pains again in GD. So there you have it, my cards are on the table, and since you suggested that I do this in the first place. I’m doing it now.
Please clarify your point of view on the topic of this thread, as well as your view of the billion Catholics which make up half of the two billion total Christians worldwide.
I'll take this as an opportunity to show you that I give as good as I get.
My actual opinion on Catholicism is this: I feel that the Roman Catholic church as a whole is an extremely oppressive group that puts a large amount of power into the hands of a few old, white men. This is never a good thing. They have a horrendous history, and it doesn't show any signs of becoming at all progressive, or even moving into the LAST century.
I think that the Papacy is foolish. I said in another thread that the idea of a group of men picking one man to suddenly be deemed the holiest guy on the planet is ludicrous.
Are all Catholics idiots? Of course not, but there are certainly plenty of them, just as there are in ALL groups of any sort.
Now, I'm very cynical by nature, and I think that religion is an opiate for the masses and a crutch for the weak-minded. I'd love to believe in a benevolent, omniscient supreme being, but at this point in my life I can't.
And on Catholicism specifically: The New Testament was supposed to remove all intermediaries between God and the people, yet Catholics still insist on all the rituals and worship the Virgin Mary and all that. This is the same to me as being a gay priest, it says right in the Bible that it's wrong. It simply makes no sense to me.
I know that there are lots of people that follow one faith or another and are simply living their lives content to do so. However, living in the middle of Jesusland as I do puts me smack in the midst of all the assholes that want to shove their beliefs down your throat. The same smug, self-righteous fucks that just KNOW that they're right and since you don't believe as they do that you're going to burn in hell.
And, it cracks me up to see Catholics seeing Mary in trees, grilled cheese sandwiches, roads, stains, etc., etc.
