Yes, it is insane.

There is also an effort to remove anything remotely related to liberal philosophies from American history texts, as well as from the bible.

As one of America's founding fathers, a statesman and a president, Jefferson held a political philosophy based on republicanism, deism and belief in unalienable rights that influenced the Declaration of Independence, our thoughts of the Constitution and the notion of church-state separation. He's a man of the enlightenment, but Texas high schoolers will no longer know him as such.
Denying this is the reason we (USA) are where we are now.
