How do you kill that which has no life?
How do you kill that which has no life?
First man to "beat" World of Warcraft...

That's pretty sad actually.

Though I would NEVER touch WOW, simply because i've seen what effect it can have on people, I do find it pretty amusing how all the nerds on a gaming site are quick to attack the guy for having no life, especially when a shitload of them probably play the same thing as often as they can.
I've noticed it a lot in competitive games too. The moment someone starts losing (especially in pub games) they like to throw out the usual "I HAVE A LIFE!!!!!11" crap, despite choosing to play the same game as everyone else on the server.

Well, you have a point but still, it is quite an extreme case with this Taiwanese fellow.

True, there's some nerdage on all of us Q3Wers, but when it comes to filling social gaps, wow players just seem to be in a league of their own.brisk wrote:...I do find it pretty amusing how all the nerds on a gaming site are quick to attack the guy for having no life, especially when a shitload of them probably play the same thing as often as they can...
Re: How do you kill that which has no life?
I'm hesitant to believe that was done by one person. In fact, I'm simply mind boggled in general. You'd have to be in both a ~99th percentile hardcore raiding guild as well as three ~99th percentile arena teams while also being in a battlegroup where your faction had the strength in battlegrounds. And while you're busy with those massive timesinks, you've also got to be out farming to keep yourself stocked and doing the thousands of scattered achievements.
Re: How do you kill that which has no life?
The battleground ones aren't that tough, you can get most of them over time without too much effort. Some would require a bit of coordination [like Alterac Blitz], or a faction imbalance. Others would require a lot of luck [like the 2000-1990 AB one]. Still, virtually all of them are quite achievable solo, I was very close to Battlemaster before I quit.
The really tough ones are some of the tricky raiding and Arena ones, as you said which require you to be in a very competitive raiding guild and to be very good at Arena PvP [and have friends who are also good at it].
Outside of that, it's just timesinks [reps, professions, quests etc]. I could see it happening if you were an eat/sleep/WoW type player.

How long has the game been out? How long did it take him?
Re: How do you kill that which has no life?
The game has been out 5 years, but the achievement system is only a little over a year old now.
Out of the possible 10860 points, you could have had maybe 1500-2000 or so [at an estimate] already completed by the time the achievement system went live. It had methods of retroactively checking what you had already completed when it went live. Anything beyond that would have to have been in the past year.

I have never played WoW as I know I would get addicted and my life would be ruined
Re: How do you kill that which has no life?
Hear this... I tried playing WoW to purposely get addicted to it. It was winter time and my old PC couldn't handle any new releases. Oh, i was in 8th grade too. Ever other game was mediocre and boring after spamming Quake 3 and Diablo 2.
Well I played it and got bored after 2 days. So boring.

I've never played WoW and had no interest to play it. Elves, orcs and midgets is so 1970.
Besides....from what I've seen it's really not much more than a glorified chat room...people standing in one spot for an hour and typing messages/VoIP and not really doing anything interesting.
"Oh but we're planning and strategizing."
Yawn.

The beta didn't capture me, so I didn't buy it right away, but a few years later I did end up picking up WoW for $30. I gave it about a month, but I never really got hooked on it.
Too many MMOs out there fall into the "time sink" model where the only way the developers can think of to keep customers coming back is by forcing them to farm for XP or loot. I also hate the 1v1 type of combat system where you can only really handle one or two enemies of your level at a time, or maybe a half dozen lower level enemies. I want big battles like in City of Heroes, where a team of 4 can take on 2 dozen enemies at a time. That was fun.

City of heroes was great, i miss that game :\
Almost got it when it was on steam for a friendly price last week, but my gaming pc killed itself before i had the chance. Maybe it was a sign of some sort eh...
Oh and also, i have extremely bad memories regarding signing up at the NCsoft website, which is condensed hell in html format.
