I hadn't heard the term myself, and wondered what it meant.
Then wikipedia was my friend.
It's amazing what you can learn just by googling shit.

I did look at that, just wondering if anyone had a definition in their own words. So does that mean AMD is just designing chips now and not marketing them or what exactly. How does this change things for the consumer is what I am asking.

It could potentially change a lot. Going fabless means AMD will no longer own the fabrication plants. AMD would design the chips but rather than building them themselves, they will send the specs to a third-party to complete the order. Like a game company sending out the gold DVD to a publisher.

So, we could potentially see a shift in quality when GF cuts costs to stay afloat or AMD shifts to a new company. Either way, I'd probably skip the next generation of chips until solid reviews came in. Then again, I've been in the Intel camp since Core 2.

nVidia hasn't been building their own chips and contracting it out to eVGA, BFG, etc. for years.

which i don't fully understand because most companies that can be in the position to control a product from start to finish would choose to do so. I can understand nvidia starting off small, but they are now clearly in the position to do it like the big boys do.
