phtourney_e4 - ALPHA *UPDATE*

Post by Pat Howard »

Hey, is the alpha party over? I've been trying to pump out some floorplans lately. This one is a candidate for my next tourney map - 3 atriums, inspired by my recent studies of pro-q3dm6. I suggest you play

VERSION 4: Okay! Sorry about the last couple releases, they were a little rushed. Below you will find the fourth version of alpha "e". This one plays a LOT better than the last two and I'm definitely ready to start taking feedback now.

Download Latest Update (0.51 MB) Link Change Dates: 10/12, 10/13, 10/14

Talking points:
- Weapons/Health could use a little tweaking.
- Ammo/Spawns were put in place very quickly.
- Heights between levels.
- Anything else?

Thanks,
-pat

Off topic:

I can understand the "all orange maps are getting on the nerves" thought. But I'll probably have a version of the template_ae set done tomorrow, that you can color via shaders any way you like. By default it will be gray. Why mention this? Because a "standard" template set helps folks orientate better, i.e. the folks here are getting experienced with scale and sizes based on the texture set - what works and what works less well. If you use the default floor and wall "grid" everyone will see right away, e.g. doorways are possibly not wide enough, or ceiling could be higher, or the like.

Then again, I might just want to see the colored version of my set in a totally different map :toothy:

To me personally, the Lego-look is ugly as a template texture set. Don't get me wrong I love Lego, but in a map, it's either meant to be weirdly experimental, an ironic statement in some strange way, or gives the map a "kiddie" look.

Then again, a standard template texture set might be too conformist... oh well :ninja:
