I love skype for keeping in contact with my old friends from back home etc. One of my mates at uni also uses it to phone his sister in australia (net to landline) as its really good for international calls.
But as like memph said, pretty useless for gaming, i use ventrilio for that.

voice communication in games is way too nerdy for me...

A lot of us signed up back when it came out but voice conversations are over-rated. I prefer the multitaskability IM provides.

it's good, but definately a processor-raper. I find it hard to use it at the same time as browsing the internet :\
edit: oh and i'm hoping to take advantage of the pc-to-phone soon, looks much cheaper than $1/minute to call the US
