CTF Maps Required

Post by Jazzz »

Hey all,

I've been forwarded to these forums by Method from ID-GAMING. I'm currently searching for some maps I can introduce to a game I play called EF.

EF is basically quake3 but with a star trek theme and improved graphics as it was released after quake3. I've been appointed as the new clanbase supervisor for the game and I'm looking at ways to improve the game for the competive side and I personally think one answer to that would be by adding new maps to the game. Therefore, I've come here for your help!

I would like to ask if there's anyone here who would be generous enough to allow us to make a map conversion of their quake3 ctf map/s or that may be able to point me in the right direction of a map maker who would be able to help me out. I'm currently trying to get in touch with some people who made some of the threewave maps for Quake3. For example q3wcp1 (japan ctf by g1zmo), q3wcp5 and a few others to see if they would allow us to make map conversions for our game. I've seen a lot of great CTF maps on quake3 however I have no idea who to contact regarding them maps and due to quake3 being an old game it's really difficult to get in touch or find an active email of some map makers.

Introducing new maps would improve our small game a lot and will surely increase the activity. Hopefully posting here may help me and EF so if anyone can help out or know someone that wouldn't mind us making a map conversion then post here or you can contact me on irc in #clanbase.ef or #o.clan. Thanks for reading if anyone did and hopefully I'll speak to you soon :)

Have you seen this thread and the maps that Salinga converted?

Btw, it's nothing famous at all but if you want it feel free to convert this one I made. The .map file is in the pk3, license is GPL.

Hey mate,

I have seen Salinga's maps before yes and we're looking to introduce two/three of his CTF maps that he's converted in the map pack we are going to release however we would like some other CTF maps that are like the threewave ones if possible.

Regarding your map, Thanks a lot for that and I'll definitely look into that. We could even introduce your map in the 1v1 ladders for clanbase as I am sure it will be played :). Is there any details of yours that you may want us to include on that map btw? as I would still like people to be aware they are maps from designers in Quake3 etc.

Thanks for the offer but I wouldn't include it in a 1vs1 ladder, there's better maps for that. The idea was to make a 1vs1 ctf map but tbh I think it plays better at 2vs2. Your choice of course.

I'm not 100% sure what kind of details you're talking about. No details required I guess. Maybe I wrote something in the readme that you can put in, sometimes I do that.

Sounds good. Will test it out tomorrow.

I'm still after some ctf maps like the quake3 threewave ones (japanctf etc) so if anyone can point me into the right direction I'd be really grateful. I can't seem to get in touch with either g1zmo or scan regarding their maps.

Hey Jaz.

Threewave maps sound impossible. They are a software development company, in this respect related to id software, they even re-released some of their maps for Quake Live...

Sock's awesome Mystic Gemini has a Spyglass feel to it (in the sense that both flags are right opposite one another), us EF players would feel somewhat familiar to it.

Iris is a CTF map.

Bastir is a great map! Another one by Sock, and with great atmosphere.

Moonstone is a great looking map, maybe in the style you're looking for.

Concrete Void Redux worth a look.

Subway not sure about this one, something similar has already been done.

Karin looking good.

Personally, I like Q3 maps so much because most bother to step away from the run of the mill textures (like the ever appearing grey tile textures in EF). Q3 is only a bit older than EF, but the mappers and the maps are 10 to 100 times better then in EF. The conversions are a great solution!

Hey spook,

Is this Topic from TF? If so then Hi :D. Ah thanks for that, I've tested out Moonstone, Bastir and Karin which are all great CTF maps and will be included in the map pack I am talking about. I have also managed to get permission for Q3WCP1 (originally JAPANCTF) so that's awesome news for the EF scene.

I haven't had a look at Concerete Void Redux or Iris so I'll get onto that today when I get some time. Regarding Subway, I actually played on this map in a F4G game and I personally disliked it.. especially in disintegration clan games.

Hey Jazzz,

Currently I'm into the developement of a ctf map with competitive 4vs4 play in mind.
Maybe you want to participate giving feedback in this thread -> viewtopic.php?f=10&t=41514
You'll also be up-to-date in this thread if you only want to follow the process...

I can also imagine to release two similar version of this map, each adapted to the game it is meant to be played (EF & vanillla/cpm).

Cheers sum.

Hey Sumatra,

Thanks for that post. I've just tested out your map and I thought it was pretty good so will definitely try it out in some mixed games and see what everyone else thinks of it.
