Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Was out at the park checking some locations for my next senior portrait shoot and there happened to be one of those anti-Obama 9/12 rallies (Obama's a Nazi, death squads for grandma, all that stuff that these knuckle dragging retards still believe).
The woman below is a very accurate representation of probably 90% of the people I saw attending this thing - most of the women were probably hovering right around 3 bills, missing some teeth, and generally the angriest people I've ever seen. They all sported the elastic waisted jeans since they are the only type they can fit into with awesome american T-shirts that had majestic eagles, wolves, 9/11 images, etc., on them. Most wore hats with this shit too. This woman kept yelling at her kid because he dropped the 'goddamned signs that she told him to hold upside down goddamnit!' (god fearing christian there). I blocked the kid out. Ironic thing is that these fat pieces of shit are the ones who will cost the government healthcare system the most when their obesity related health issues as seniors become life-threatening and require massive bypass surgeries, transplants, lifetimes of expensive medication, etc. (or even now, for the hypocrites that use medicaid like one family that was protesting obama's plan and holding a sign that said 'government run healthcare = unconstitutional' but use medicaid for their own kids...I only know this because they happen to go to the school I teach at).
But back on point, if you want to see the prototypical tea-bagging, birth certificate denying, gun toting, healthcare for all=nazi germany American, here you go:

A recent HDR of downtown, small sized.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Am I missing something or does HDR just make everything look like it's painted? Or is it just that the Hi-res pics aren't being uploaded?
Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
It's part of the effect. Depending on what you want to achieve you can get a very mild impact - simply showing a broader range of tones from highlights to shadows than you would get in a single expsoure, to a slightly surreal look to something way overdone. My personal taste is usually the slight effect that can, like you said, make an image almost appear painted. But depending on the subject or scene, different amounts of processing may be used. It's a lot of personal preference.
Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Here's another one that is part of the project I am working on - the final version still needs some work to get rid of some issues in the sky and whatnot I think. The art director of a local magazine emailed me after I submitted a few photos and said he was going to ask his editor about a feature using my shots of the area to highlight local stuff for people who may be moving into the area. Don't know if the editor will go for it or not, but it looks like a few shots will be in the magazine either way. I'm feeling a bit in over my head to be honest between the book idea and this.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
I like that image very much as well as the ones that make the molten metal effect. It's just that some look almost surreal but cool nonetheless. I guess it boils down to image processing that I'm not used to looking at.
Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
I'd much rather enjoy subtle aspects of HDR that help accent key areas of a natural shot...but to be fair they do look cool and we all go to the extreme in the beginning. I know that if I ever got into doing HRD processing (photography for that matter) I would definitely indulge for a while. I'm sure tnf's style will evolve with time. He's got some nice screens up already.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
There's something a little bit alarming about seeing a beady eye in the mouth.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Bit of a design flaw. It was really weird walking around all day seeing out of one eye. You lose all depth perception.
